Sad that my dear friend is heading back to India. She was one of the Jerusalem Fellows in 2022 and is such an inspiring artist. We had a wonderful week here in NY - went to the Whitney Biennial and to where we got a special tour with extraordinary curator Adela goldsmith. Among my favorites at the biennial were the amazing hangings by Montana artist Teresa baker and a giant inflatable from the '80s by downtown denizen Pat Olezko. Lots more that photos did not do justice to. Worth a visit. And storm King is always incredible. Especially with the trees still bare.

I spoke to four different 20 somethings today and NONE of them knew about Saturday's protest. Very worrisome. Means the echo chamber is NOT getting to who it needs to. So TODAY send someone younger than you info about a NO KINGS DAY protest near you. They are going to have to live in his mess if they don't help clear it! Btw the book pictured was on a stoop near my house. Published in 1961!! How things change and stay the same😵‍💫😱

Found some wonderful photos in the archives at the .publiclibrary for the performing arts. These are a few from my adventures in Russia ( thanks to David Eden) with the inimitable Liz Thompson, who was honored last week at a BEAUTIFUL dance performance by Marta Renzi and It was a wonderful gathering of dancers and choreographers ( and dance lovers) and such a well deserved tribute to Liz. Who literally SAVED and taught me a whole lot about saving organizations in free fall and how to (re)build an audience (anyone remember ( anyone remember in 1998?).

Sad to be leaving Kerala. Apparently one of the most tolerant places in India. Also really beautiful. Yesterday I visited Jewtown( more posts later) and saw some more fantastic work in the biennale in ft Kochi. It was a REALLY hot day so at suggestion of locals took the " Water metro ( first and best in India purportedly) and maybe because it was a holiday there were A MILLION people online. I got on after 45 minutes and by the time the boat docked I had to go right back. And there was ANOTHER long line. Serendipitously a young man appeared and said he could get me back to ft Kochi in 5 minutes. Joined by a young American guy and an Indian couple, It was ten of the most delightful, cool minutes of the day.

Yesterday the retreat in the hills of Munnar officially began with a "Pooja" ceremony- a Hindu ritual used to mark new beginnings. The intricacy of the hand choreography ( little video in the middle ) was extraordinary. This is my first time at a yoga retreat and in addition to learning about yogic philosophy and practice ( and eating only two meals a day and no alcohol) I'm finding the pace very interesting. A great mix of interesting local trips ( Ayurvedic massage, visit to a spice garden, kathakali performance...) and good gaps of free time. Hard to stop doomscrolling the news which is so horrific in so many directions ( thank you Minnesotans for standing up to ICE) and focus on finding contentment. But as one member of our group said, in trying to balance the guilt of leaving her responsibilities with the importance "self care" she realized that short term self focus will result in longterm ability to take care of others
