I think part of the Fifth Law of the Navy is lost in translation until you learn that the anchor chain, and not the anchor is wha keeps the ship in place.
Some of the supporting cast isn’t even in the chain, they’re the wildcat, and the pelican hook. They’re the anchor team on deck ready to apply the brake.
It takes a whole village to man a Navy, and that includes so much more than just the service member. It’s your parents, your friends, your support system.
I painted this portrait of a female officer last summer, and I never added devices or rank, I figured I would paint those and scan to make a bevy of options.
I got busy, as one does in the Navy and only came back to it this morning when I realized I needed a backdrop for our Fifty Years of Strengthening the Link in the Chain card.
My mom was worried her expression was too severe, and she doesn’t look happy. But I see the determined smirk painted in and the resolve in her eye.
I had the privilege to be on the podcast, and when asked about the 50 Year Celebration of , I could only answer with that I am so honored to be a part of a community and a legacy that truly embodies the Fifth Law of the Navy.
I am so privileged to be a part of that great chain.
