The perfect date, not too hot, not too cold, all you need is a light jacket.

Ta**us season, last few days of the month of the Military Child, right before Military Spouse Day, and Mother’s Day.

Orien “Rises in the East,” a sweet old name I found while walking in the cemetery in Newport after finishing my CQE in Newport six weeks pregnant with him.

The last nine months have felt like an episode of Love is Blind as we waited to find out the s*x until his arrival.

Naval Medical Center Portsmouth Labor and Delivery could not have been more fabulous, and as a TAR, having an amazing Reserve Nurse on her two weeks of AT felt like everything was shining down on us.

We appreciate everyone’s well wishes for our new little family, and patience on the slower fulfillment of orders!

It’s a canon event that I will not interfere with.

I remember thinking that my XO on Pinckney didn’t like me. When I was at ASAT sitting down for DIVO 360 I remember saying out loud “Oh No” when the LT debriefing me said your XO was the senior reviewer.

And then it was all about my competency, ability to do tasks with no oversight, and care for my peers and Sailors.

When you lead a team of high performers, it sucks to rack and stack when you truly have 10 #1 Sailors if they were spread across the waterfront.

I wish our evaluation system was focused on personal growth, did you execute your job and grow vs comparing two Sailors in departments with wildly different but important jobs.

But until that day happens, I hope you’re recognition-maxxing for your team. Evals, MAPs, awards, and my personal favorite version of a monetary bonus - generous employment of 72 hour liberty chits.

I think part of the Fifth Law of the Navy is lost in translation until you learn that the anchor chain, and not the anchor is wha keeps the ship in place.

Some of the supporting cast isn’t even in the chain, they’re the wildcat, and the pelican hook. They’re the anchor team on deck ready to apply the brake.

It takes a whole village to man a Navy, and that includes so much more than just the service member. It’s your parents, your friends, your support system.

I painted this portrait of a female officer last summer, and I never added devices or rank, I figured I would paint those and scan to make a bevy of options.

I got busy, as one does in the Navy and only came back to it this morning when I realized I needed a backdrop for our Fifty Years of Strengthening the Link in the Chain card.

My mom was worried her expression was too severe, and she doesn’t look happy. But I see the determined smirk painted in and the resolve in her eye.

I had the privilege to be on the podcast, and when asked about the 50 Year Celebration of , I could only answer with that I am so honored to be a part of a community and a legacy that truly embodies the Fifth Law of the Navy.

I am so privileged to be a part of that great chain.

Last call for custom commissioning announcements and grad party invitations!

I am shifting gears as I prep for maternity leave and today is the final day for these orders as they will all be processed and shipped over the next week to guarantee arrival before May.

USNA announcements and NROTC announcements (USN Officer Crest and USMC Eagle, Globe, and Anchor) will leave port until next Class of 2027.

Here’s to everyone forward deployed right now.

My birthday wish is always for a safe return with all ten fingers and toes (a person).

We have a three week estimated date of arrival for Baby Siefert, and it feels almost like the weekly progress meeting in a shipyard.

No one knows when the part will arrive, but it’s needed for the whole plan to move forward. They’ll try calling the shipping company more time.

Early Bird Pricing for the USNA 2026 Commissioning Store ends today, and we’ll be closing custom orders for graduation announcements this Friday.

Our Homeward Bound collection, will launch sometime in the next few weeks. Inspired by the homeward bound pennant, and beautiful quote I found inscribed in a vintage WWIl book of Navy Hymns I bought as a gift for my Chaplain when she earned her pin, these cards are meant to send as a little prayer or reflection to your loved ones.
