Women in Lighting –

If you search online for “lighting designer on site”, you will mostly see men.

Let’s change that.
Construction sites ARE places for women! We have zero doubt about it.

And this belief inspired the creation of the new Women in Lighting Utility Belt, designed by formalighting, one of the amazing supporters of this project from day one.

This belt is made for real work on site, to carry your phone, notebook, light meter, and the tools you use every day.

And now, we are launching the challenge.

📸 How to participate:
If you received your WIL Utility Belt in Frankfurt:

1️⃣ Take a photo of yourself on site wearing your belt
2️⃣ Send it by email to [email protected]
3️⃣ (Optional) Share it on social using and tag

👉 Important: only email submissions will be entered into the competition.

🎁 What’s the prize?
All submissions will be entered into a lucky draw for a
✨ 2-night trip to Milan Design Week 2027
Generously sponsored by Formalighting

👀 Didn’t get a belt yet?

This is just the beginning.

We will be sharing more opportunities to receive the WIL Utility Belt at upcoming events — so make sure you follow along and don’t miss the next call.

Let’s make women visible where they already belong:
On site.

Panel moments | Light Middle East, Dubai ✨

A powerful and grounded conversation at Light Middle East offered a real insight into what it means to work as a lighting designer across the region, led by local ambassadors of the project.

Expertly moderated by Randy Reed, Editor of Designing Lighting Magazine, the discussion moved beyond theory and titles.
Each ambassador brought local projects to the table, sharing real challenges from their markets, cultural, technical, economic, and professional, and how they navigate them on the ground.

👏 Panelists
• Jinane Abi Kalil | Moonlight Architectural Squad (MASQ)
• Ayazhan Assanova — WIL Ambassador, Kazakhstan
• Alla Fillipovich — 962Light | WIL Ambassador, Jordan
• Ghada Dhwaik — GD Lighting Design & Lumino Experience | WIL Ambassador, Egypt
• Surbhi Jindal — Da Light Hub | WIL Ambassador, India

Different countries. Different realities.
Yet strikingly common themes:
– visibility and credibility
– leadership and ownership
– building practice in fast-evolving regions
– creating space for dialogue, not just delivery

What stood out most was the honesty.
No polished narratives, just lived experience, practical insight, and a strong sense of responsibility toward the next generation.

Grateful to share the room with women who don’t just represent regions, they actively shape them through projects, education, and leadership.

✨ More than visibility.
✨ More than representation.
✨ This is about sharing knowledge, naming challenges, and building stronger ecosystems — together.

“The ever-changing role of the lighting designer” was a fabulous panel discussion played before a near full house on the main stage at the LDI Show.

The panelist’s had a great dynamic - interacting with each other, with the amazing moderator Sharon Huizinga and with the audience.

Super inspiring thoughts, great advice and amazing role models for young women entering the profession who are wondering which roles would suit their skills and interests.

Thank you for standing up and being visible - Sharon Huizinga, Aria Hailey, Jessica Creager and Naomi S. Gold.

🎤✨ WIL Entertainment Sessions 2025, What a Day!

For the fourth year in a row, we gathered at the HQ in Paris on November 25th for the annual Women in Entertainment Lighting Sessions, and what a truly inspiring day it was!

💡This year’s programme brought together an extraordinary lineup of female voices across lighting disciplines, from architecture to art and technology, live events, concerts, and even theme parks!

✨ Racheal Flint (Michael Grubb Studio, UK) opened the day with a journey through her latest architectural lighting projects.

✨ Anouk Wipprecht (NL) mesmerised us with her visionary work in wearable tech and light-based fashion.

✨ Tracey Eck (FR) gave us a rare glimpse into her 33-year career with Disney Imagineering, sharing lessons from the magical world of entertainment parks.

✨ Sooner Routhier (US) closed the programme with an honest and powerful talk on how she carved her path into concert lighting and production design.

💬 Each talk was followed by a Q&A session, sparking meaningful conversations and powerful connections across borders and disciplines.

🔦 A huge thank you to for hosting us once again and offering a behind-the-scenes demo of their latest lighting innovations. And of course, to our brilliant hosts, Sharon & Martin from , from Topstage Sweden, and Briony from Ayrton — for bringing the day to life with energy, insight and care.

Until next year 💛
