Parquet Perfection: Elevating Ocala Horse Farms with Timeless Elegance!
Greetings, discerning homeowners and equestrian enthusiasts! If you’re a fan of those stunning home makeover reveals—where every detail transforms a space into a masterpiece—then you’re in the right place. Welcome to the latest from Crown Equus Construction and Design, where we’re redefining luxury living on the horse farms of Ocala, Florida. Today, we’re spotlighting our exquisite parquet floor projects, a tradition as rich as the pedigrees of the thoroughbreds grazing your pastures!
A Nod to Parquet’s Regal Past
Let’s take a gallop back to the 16th century, when French aristocracy decided their chateaus needed floors as impressive as their stables. Parquet flooring emerged—intricate wood patterns laid in geometric harmony, originally crafted to rival marble’s grandeur without draining royal coffers. The word “parquet,” from Old French parchetmeaning “small enclosed space,” perfectly suits these designs that turn any room into a showcase. Today, this heritage shines in the elegant homes and barns of Ocala’s elite horse community.
Craftsmanship Tailored for Ocala’s Equestrian Elite
Nestled in Ocala’s sandy landscapes, we’ve mastered the art of creating parquet floors that complement your prized horses. Many of our projects feature custom-cut Italian porcelain tiles, designed to mimic the warmth of wood while withstanding the demands of a bustling farm. The image above showcases one such masterpiece—a sophisticated layout that blends durability with the timeless appeal of a well-groomed stable. For those who prefer the authentic grain, we also craft bespoke wooden parquet, perfect for a grand foyer or a cozy tack room where your equine companions inspire every detail.
Why Parquet? A Touch of Equestrian Luxury
Imagine hosting a gathering where your guests admire the intricate floor patterns as much as your champion stallion’s latest ribbon. Parquet’s interlocking designs add depth and space to your home, creating an ambiance that’s both inviting and opulent. It’s a subtle nod to equestrian heritage, enhancing the value of your property while effortlessly concealing the occasional hoofprint or spill—because life with horses is beautifully unpredictable!
Crown Equus’ Equestrian Touch
At Crown Equus, we understand the unique needs of Ocala’s horse farm owners. Our porcelain tiles and expertly installed wood floors are crafted to endure the region’s sandy terrain, ensuring your investment remains pristine. Whether it’s a herringbone design echoing the stride of a dressage horse or a bold diagonal pattern inspired by a galloping thoroughbred, we bring a level of craftsmanship that resonates with wealthy clientele who demand the best for their estates.
So, if you’re ready to elevate your horse farm into a showcase of elegance, reach out to Crown Equus Construction and Design. Obsessed with these vintage brass bail pulls I just snagged! 🛠️✨ Solid brass, gorgeous aged patina, and that swirling rococo design. Back stamp says K3782—pretty sure these are Keeler Brass, early-mid 1900s (maybe 1920s–1950s?). Love how the backplates are handed left/right for perfect drawer alignment.
I always keep old hardware like this stashed away. Nothing adds instant history and elegance like real vintage brass on a plain piece. Thinking of using a set on some cabinet doors in that weird boxy space on my staircase—it’s awkward, but these pulls will give it some old-world charm and make it feel intentional.
What era do you think these are from? Got any hardware wins to share? Drop pics or guesses! 👇

Who loves perfectly smooth walls!? It’s not a new idea.

Plastered walls have a rich history dating back over 9,000 years, making them one of humanity’s oldest and most enduring building materials. Evidence of early plaster use appears around 7500 BC in sites like ’Ain Ghazal in Jordan and Çatalhöyük in Turkey, where people mixed lime, clay, or marl to coat mud-brick walls, floors, and hearths for protection, smoothness, and decoration. Ancient Egyptians advanced the craft by around 3000 BC, using gypsum-based plaster as mortar in pyramids and for smooth wall facings in tombs, often adorned with frescoes and reliefs. Civilizations like the Greeks, Romans, and later Renaissance artisans elevated plaster to an art form, creating intricate ornamental moldings, stucco details, and decorative finishes in villas, cathedrals, and palaces. In medieval Europe, plaster gained importance for fire resistance (after events like the 1212 London Bridge fire), leading to techniques like pargeting. Lime and gypsum plasters dominated interiors through the 19th and early 20th centuries, providing durable, versatile surfaces for painting, stenciling, or wallpaper—until drywall largely replaced traditional lath-and-plaster methods after the 1930s–1940s.
Personally, I absolutely love smooth plastered walls over textured ones. There’s something so elegant and timeless about that flawless, glass-like finish—it feels luxurious and intentional. Textured walls (like orange peel or knockdown) can hide imperfections in a pinch, but they limit your options when you want to elevate a space.
Smooth walls are the perfect base for wallpapering: patterns lay flat without bubbling, seams align perfectly, and removal is far easier later without tearing chunks of texture along with the paper. They’re also ideal for faux wood paneling applications—whether you’re installing actual wood planks, shiplap, or using peel-and-stick/reclaimed looks—because the even surface ensures clean lines, no shadowing from bumps, and a seamless, high-end result.
And for achieving that coveted old world look? Smooth plaster is unbeatable. It mimics the refined, hand-troweled walls of historic European estates or grand chateaus, providing a subtle backdrop that lets architectural details, molding, antiques, or rich colors shine. Textured walls can fight against that classic, sophisticated vibe, making everything feel a bit more modern-rustic than intentionally aged and elegant.
If you’re renovating or designing, go for the smooth skim coat—it’s worth the extra effort every time. What projects are you tackling next?

Yesterday I was exploring the elegance at the World Equestrian Center – Ocala! The new Equestrian convention Manor and upcoming Shoppes Off 80th bring that stunning neoclassical vibe—grand columns, timeless architecture, and a luxurious feel that elevates the whole experience. It’s like stepping into a refined European estate right here in horse country.

Our favorite the neoclassical design on all the buildings including the upcoming store fronts.

Capped off the afternoon with a sweet stop at Emma’s Patisserie—fresh croissants, delicate French pastries, and that perfect Parisian charm. The fancy croissants hit the spot! 🥐✨
Ocala keeps getting better. Who’s heading to WEC next?

Big progress on the 80’ round pen build-out in Ocala! Started with a solid limestone base—spread ~6 loads of crushed limestone in layers, wet it down, and compacted it tight with the farm tractor for that perfect stable, well-draining foundation. No more muddy surprises in Florida weather!

My Cavalier Lady decided to be the official footing tester. She zoomed around like it was her personal racetrack—zoomies galore, paws flying, tail wagging 100 mph. If she approves, it’s gotta be good! 🐴🐶💨
Next up: Putting down the poles and doing the fencing, painting and finally adding the top sand layer and fiber. Can’t wait to see the horse in there!

When I’m redoing a room, lighting isn’t just about picking pretty fixtures… it’s about how many layers of light I can control. 🌟
I live by layered lighting: ambient (overall glow), task (for actually seeing what you’re doing), and accent (to highlight textures, art, or that killer backsplash). But the real game-changer? Wiring each type—or even each zone—on its own separate switch (or circuit when it makes sense).
That means full control: bright and bright for cooking/cleaning, soft and moody for movie nights, or just the pendants glowing while everything else chills. No more “all or nothing” floodlight vibes that make a beautiful space feel flat and cold.
The catch? To do it right, the walls often have to come down to the studs. 🫣 Demo dust, new wiring runs, extra boxes… it’s extra work and planning upfront. But once it’s done? Total flexibility, better mood control, energy smarts (dim what you don’t need), and a room that feels custom-tailored to how you actually live.
This is one of those “you don’t know what you’re missing until you have it” upgrades. In our latest projects, separate switches for recessed cans, under-cabinet strips, pendants, and sconces have been client favorites.
What about you—do you have lighting regrets from past renos? Or are you team “more switches = more magic”? Drop your thoughts below! 👇
