How I make my giant Easter pretzel sticks!
- [ ] *Start by taking a Dollar Tree pool noodle and cutting it to 15”. Do the same with a 3/8” dowel rod.
- [ ] *Then Cut a 2.35 inch styrofoam ball in half.
- [ ] *Run hot glue all the way down one side of the dowel, then slide it glue side down into the noodle. Let it dry.
- [ ] *Next, hot glue each half of the foam ball to each end of the noodle. This is your pretzel base.
- [ ] *Roll out foam clay and place it about 6” up on the lower half of the pretzel. Cut off the excess clay, then wrap it around the back, pressing the seam together. You will have a big clump of clay left, and you can pull it off. Then begin to smooth out the seam by pressing with your palm and rolling on your flat surface. You can also add a little water to help smooth it if need be.
- [ ] *Wait for this to dry for 24 hours before you proceed. Repeat the same process for the upper part of the pretzel making sure you roll out a longer piece of clay, and slightly overlapping the bottom clay when you lay the piece down.
- [ ] *Using liquitex raw sienna and folk art brown marron paint the bottom of the pretzel.
- [ ] *Next use silicone molds and foam clay to make embellishments for your pretzel. Once you press the clay into the mold, just stick it in the freezer for a few minutes and your clay will pop out easily. Let these pieces dry for 24 hours.
- [ ] *Use a spool of 3mm silk cording to make the faux chocolate drizzle. Hot glue the end at the bottom of the dipped part of the pretzel. Then work in sections brushing a generous amount of mod podge on, then rolling the cord up the pretzel.
- [ ] *Once you’ve reached the top, cut the cord and hot glue the end piece to the pretzel.
- [ ] *After the mod padge is completely dry, paint another coat of mod podge to completely seal the cord down.
- [ ] *After that coat is dry, use pastel acrylic paints to paint sections a different color all the way up. Let the paint dry.
- [ ] *Again, working in sections, brush on tacky glue and sprinkle on iridescent flakes first, then fine iridescent glitter.
- [ ] *When the glue is dry you’re ready to glue on the embellishments you made.
- [ ] *The final step is applying tacky glue to the entire lower section of the pretzel and sprinkling on the fake salt.
