📖 A Small Prayer Book with a Big Story

One of my favorite things about rescuing old books is wondering about the hands that once held them.

I came across this 1944 Oxford University Press Book of Common Prayer. Tucked inside are handwritten inscriptions, a confirmation certificate from St. Michael and All Angels Episcopal Church, and the name of a young girl named Donna Ruth.

Who was Donna? Did she carry this little prayer book to church each Sunday? Was it a treasured gift from her parents? Did it sit on a bedside table for years before finding its way here?

The pages show their age, but the memories remain.

I always feel a little honored to be the temporary caretaker of pieces like this until they find their next home. Off it goes to a new set of hands.

Sometimes the greatest treasures aren’t valuable because they’re rare—they’re valuable because they remind us that someone lived, loved, prayed, and left a story behind.
