As FISHING season is now upon us, I’m asking for a little info and possible assistance.
I haven’t been up the Little Su in a few years…. Or so… 🙄. (I know, my bad…)
But am curious and asking for help just the same.
Some years ago, Carpet World sponsored and placed a cleaning table tucked into the side of a small dock, that was typically visible by the river, and used my many to clean their daily catch before returning to shore. I was told that it was grandfathered in to now laws/rules/restrictions that prohibit any type of advertising along the river. This was NOT the original purpose of its design. It was placed their with all good intention by my husbands “crew” to assist fisherman in the area… and was painted with the “Carpet World” logo, to remind all who used, that my husband was too an avid fisherman, who believed in a peaceful quiet world of fishing, and let those who needed, to call for possible items in the floor covering world, that they could use in their gear, and or boats. Carpet samples were always donated for cleaning surfaces, to line boats, racks, pole holders and more. Tent floors, tacks and adhesives possibly needed for boating repair. He wanted to let people know where they could find practical items few would think of, but would be helpful to those who shared his appreciation for nature and one of his favorite reasons to live here in Alaska. He rarely charged for such items, but if he did, no one ever thought of them as unreasonable or a profiteering as cost would only cover HIS cost to provide.
As I mentioned, it’s been quite some time since visiting myself, and would appreciate it if someone who happens to pass it, could take a photo, and let me know if and how badly it needs repair… it’s even if it is still there. I would like to restore it, and hire someone to do the physical work to restore his small gift to Alaskans, and those who could use a little cleaning table right in the middle of nowhere!
Its location is right in the middle of the little Su, just above the mouth, right where you’d expect to find my Joe… sitting back, enjoying Alaska, and sipping on a “cold one”.
