Hey there Friends!

I recently started working on a new website with a store front. Etsy was a great way to get started, but between the extremely high commissions (as much as 30% with offsite ads!) and scammers (it took less than a month for a listing/photos to be stolen), I decided it's time to start transitioning my products to a more secure setting. It would me so much to me if you could take a stroll around the new site and let me know if you find any broken links, misspelled words/major grammatical errors, or just give me some general feedback about flow and design.

You can find us in the same place at www.thewheelandanvil.com!

This is why I feel like the backyard is our “secret garden”. While it’s not really a secret, it lends a sense of privacy that makes it extra special to me. Now I just have to decide where my favorite spot to spin is!

The studio is getting so close to being ready to unpack, setup, and get back to work! 🥰

Just before we left Florida, I came across information about spinning nettle into yarn. I’d always regretted not doing any natural dye work with nettles when we lived in Washington previously, but never knew about processing the stalks, almost exactly like flax, to spin into a plant-based yarn.

We’ve spent the last few days intensively unpacking but taking breaks to wander about our yard in awe and wonder, discovering a plethora of wild cherry trees (great for bird watchers like myself), wild strawberry, and now, a lovely patch of Stinging Nettle! I know many folks wouldn’t exactly be excited to find this, but I certainly am not “most folks” 😂

Well, fooey. I lost 20% of the length in fulling 😭 I expected loss, but not that much. The width, which was woven with cotton, only lost 5%. I still love it — just can’t use it for a poncho. AGAIN. One of these days I’m gonna get it right. Or sample. One of those 😂
