Could you get any more homeschooly than this? šŸ˜‚

Curled up on the couch for read aloud. Ambiance playing in the background. Essential oils diffusing. Cat and dog nearby (I apologize for the dog scratching šŸ˜‚šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļø). And Eden making a scarf by hand.
It was one of those picture-perfect homeschool moments.

But in all seriousness, it is NOT always like this. I spend almost every afternoon reminding Eden (multiple times šŸ˜…) to do her independent math and writing work. This afternoon was especially rough.

But mornings like this are something I work really hard to make a priority in our homeschool.
I want there to be time to curl up on the couch with the animals and read a good book together. I want there to be room for creativity and curiosity and conversations that arenā€™t rushed. I want to actually enjoy being with my child and pour into her while I still get to have her home with me.

It isnā€™t always peaceful. It definitely isnā€™t always picture perfect. But these little moments are a huge part of my why.

And theyā€™re what make me excited to get out of bed and homeschool again tomorrow.

Maybe this is your reminder that the meaningful moments donā€™t just happenā€”we have to make room for them. Whatever that looks like in your life, I hope you make room for yours. šŸ¤

Yesterday was our first day back at homeschool co-op! ā¤ļø

This is our 6th year being part of a co-op, and even though we drive a little over an hour to get there every Friday, it is truly one of the best parts of our week.
If you arenā€™t familiar with homeschool co-ops, they can all look a little different. Ours isnā€™t connected to a certain curriculum or a particular way of homeschooling. Itā€™s simply a place for homeschool families to gather in community while our kids take classes, learn new things, andā€”probably most importantlyā€”spend time with their friends.

We meet once a week throughout the entire school year, with other activities and events sprinkled in along the way.

This year Eden is taking Art, PE, Cooking, Book Writing, and Forensic Science, and Iā€™m teaching US Geography and Game Schooling.

One of my favorite things about homeschooling has been realizing that we donā€™t have to do it alone. Weā€™ve found such a wonderful community through our co-op, and after six years, I canā€™t imagine our homeschool life without it.

Yesterday was a wonderful first day back, and weā€™re pretty excited for another year of learning, friendships, community, and Friday adventures. ā¤ļø

Lord Jesus, give me patience with this dear child. Here is a little behind the scenes of the dynamic between me and my daughter. She is in my business, in my space, and telling me what to do literally 24/7.
I love how I told her numerous times to be quiet and stay in the other room while I was working and it turned into this. And the whistling! šŸ¤¦šŸ¼ā€ā™€ļøMy facial expressions though! šŸ¤£šŸ¤£šŸ¤£
In all seriousness I wouldnā€™t trade our special relationship for anything! šŸ¤

Today we officially kicked off 6th grade! šŸ“ššŸ¤

Every year Iā€™m reminded how grateful I am that I get to homeschool Eden. It isnā€™t because I think itā€™s the best choice for every familyā€”itā€™s simply the best choice for our family. We love the slower pace, the freedom to follow curiosity, and the wonderful community weā€™ve found through our homeschool co-op and our hiking group.

Whether your child is homeschooled, attends public school, or goes to private school, I truly hope this school year is filled with growth, wonderful teachers, meaningful friendships, and lots of good memories.

This year weā€™re adding something new to our homeschool: a Gratitude Jar. šŸ«™

Each day (or even just a few times a week), weā€™ll write down one thing weā€™re thankful for, fold it up, and drop it into the jar.

My very first one said:
ā€œIā€™m thankful that I get to homeschool Eden and give her a life filled with wonder and curiosity.ā€

Iā€™m already looking forward to sitting down together at the end of the school year and reading every little note. I have a feeling itā€™ll remind us of so many moments we would have otherwise forgotten.

If youā€™re looking for a simple tradition to start this school year, I hope youā€™ll make a gratitude jar too. It doesnā€™t matter what kind of school your family is part of. I think taking just a minute to notice the good can change the way we experience the entire year.

Hereā€™s to a wonderful school year for all of our kids, teachers, and families. šŸ¤

Saturday Soap Day!!! šŸ§¼ Itā€™s weird making fall soaps when itā€™s over 100 degrees outside! Hopefully by the time these are cured in 4-6 weeks it will at least be a smidge cooler!

One thing thatā€™s important to me is that every bar of soap looks finished.

After I cut the soap, I bevel the edges by hand before I label each bar. It takes a little more time, but I think those little details matter.

One bar at a time. Thatā€™s how every batch is made around here. šŸ¤

Hello friends!

I want to start sharing more of my life with you outside of the soaps. Bear Creek is so much more than handmade soap. Itā€™s our homeschool life, my sheep flock, little moments on the farm, and all the things that inspire the apothecary in the first place.

So if youā€™re here for the soaps, donā€™t worryā€”they arenā€™t going anywhere. But I hope youā€™ll enjoy these little glimpses into our life too.

Todayā€™s glimpse is my sheep flock. I moved them to a fresh pasture a few days ago, and they are pretty happy about it! This is one of my favorite places on the farm.

One of my favorite parts of the day is doing my morning sheep check. No matter how busy life feels, it forces me to slow down for a few minutes, listen to the birds, watch the sheep, and soak in the beauty of nature. Itā€™s one of those simple things that fills my cup.

Iā€™m a little worried about what happens after they eat this pasture down because weā€™re in a pretty serious drought, and green grass is getting hard to come by. Weā€™d sure appreciate your prayers for rain.

Until then... enjoy a few peaceful moments with the sheep baaing and the birds singing. šŸ¤
