It is a needle craft like cross stitch or embroidery, used with fabric stitched with floss. Plastic canvas however is a plastic mesh grid, and is used with yarn. It is made from thin, flexible plastic or vinyl, and comes in a variety of shapes, as well as sheets that can be cut into shapes or size needed for the project. Some of the projects made with plastic canvas are coasters, magnets or wall h
angings, which are flat projects. Plastic canvas can also be used to make tissue box covers, boxes with lids, doll houses etc. I have been crafting with plastic canvas for as long as I could remember, my first project around 1983. My first piece was a kit I bought at Ames department store. It was a big piece, especially for a first timer, but I bought it for Halloween, which is my favorite holiday. It was three pieces, a cat wearing a witches hat, sitting on top of a jack o'lantern. It took me three years to complete, I bought it just before Halloween but put it down when I didn't finish it that year. I did this for two more years, picking it up each time just before Halloween. When I was done and saw the finished product, and what I had accomplished, I was hooked. After that I started buying pattern books, yarn and canvas. I have made so many things, most of it I gave away, I've kept very little for my own decorating. After a few years, my family had started to encourage me to sell my completed items. It took awhile, a long while, it wasn't until my daughter told me about this place online called Etsy and that she was selling her crafts on there. So here I am, most of what I make is plastic canvas, I have some crocheted items, I will have more as I continue to get better reading patterns. A few years back I started to design my own plastic canvas patterns. Some I've done with a pattern maker and clip art and some free hand. I recently decided to devote my first Esty shop for just my plastic canvas patterns. https://www.etsy.com/shop/homespunpatterns. Although I love to craft , my first love is my family, they are my world.
