Holy Wednesday
Mark 14: 1-11
Jesus is anointed and Judas betrays Jesus.
Mary was willing to give expensive perfume to Jesus while Judas decided to trade Him for money.

We talked about what anointing means- to set someone apart for a specific job.
All I had was lavender essential oil and while that’s not the same I still let the kids smell it. It helped give them an idea of what I was talking about in the story.
The coins were to represent Judas selling Jesus for money.
We talked about the importance of making right choices.
One is remembered for something good and the other is remembered for doing something bad. Which one would you choose?

Holy Tuesday
Matthew 21:18-22
Jesus curses the fig tree and does a lot of teaching. I chose to teach on why Jesus cursed the fig tree. The tree had leaves and looked like fruit should be on it but when Jesus looked there was no fruit. This is a good example for our lives. If we’ve truly been changed by the Lord then we will show fruit -not just blend in with the rest of the trees. There will be evidence which led us to talking about the fruit of the Spirit.
I used 2 gift bags for this example. I filled one with rocks and the other I filled with a living plant. Each gift bag from the outside looks exciting and fun but on the inside only 1 has something pretty and alive. The rocks represent a heart of stone. Someone who doesn’t love God in their heart but outwardly looks like they do. They do and say the right things but their heart is like a stone towards God. Same for the fig tree it looked like fruit should be present but when examined there were none.
Jesus wants our hearts not just our actions, or words and when we give our hearts to Him they grow and produce fruit.

Holy Monday
Jesus enters the temple and
chases the moneychangers out and then heals the blind and the lame.

Matthew 21:12-17

I explained the point of Jesus coming to save us from our sins.
We read “The Garden, the Curtain and the Cross” by Carl Leferton

Then did a science experiment with iodine, water, and bleach.

This shows the kids a real life explain of our sin (iodine & water) making things dark then Jesus cleans us up and washes away the sin. (Add the bleach and the iodine disappears!)

Learning about Jesus shouldn’t feel like work. It doesn’t have to be boring!

I’m super excited for Holy Week this year!
I decided I’d do some interactive, fun, and creative things with Laura to help her understand why we celebrate.

🥚Each day I’m hiding an Easter egg filled with a verse, we will read the passage, and then we will do something that corresponds with those verses.

🫏🌿So today we read about Jesus riding a donkey and entering Jerusalem. The people celebrated because they thought Jesus was there to be their earthly king.

🌿🍨We made sundaes for Palm Sunday.

I was going to have her make a palm leaf but the day got away from me..🙃

Do sundaes really go? Maybe not, but what matters is that we’re doing something fun and exciting. Plus it’s a memory made and I’m trying to be intentional with our time and with Jesus.
All we can do is try our best and give the rest to the Lord.

I got the Secret Santa made with coke, cookie butter, and vanilla cream! So good but I should’ve got the small size because it was rich! 😋
