Celebrating International Women’s Day in the studio 🎨 Returning to my interest in figurative work. Can I combine it with my love of colorful abstraction?

When I don’t know what I’m doing with my painting, a studio day of color mix matching gives me back some confidence. This artist is driven by color!

Such a wonderful visit to the Museum of Fine Art in St Petersburg, Florida:

Saw a wonderful piece from an abstract expressionist new to me - Syd Solomon;

A portrait by George Biddle who was an on assignment artist during WWII;

An abstract piece by Squire Joseph Vickers, a talented amateur artist who was the cheif architect for the NYC subway system;

a “magic realism” piece by Carroll Cloar, using the “decolcomania” technique;

And best if all - an extraordinary Kehind Wiley portrait. Spectacular!

Theres always always something more to learn! 💫

I love my family ❤️ They support me and my art-making ways by attending my shows, discussing my work with me and generally appreciating my efforts. They’ve even been known to wonder if local museums or galleries “have any Tarsha’s” when they visit! 😂 I couldn’t appreciate them more. Thank you Hailey and Oscar for adopting “Most Peculiar, Mama” into that special place in your new home!

What a glorious visit to the Kaohsiung Museum of Fine Arts. I was so impressed by the SouthernVisions of Women Artists collection, showcasing women artists from Taiwan and Southeast Asia.
My favorite installation is shown in the last two photos, made up of dried banana peels akin to the artist’s (Lo Yi-Chun) brush strokes. Amazing!!

Visiting the National Gallery in Singapore today, I learned about the prolific local artist Lim Tze Peng. Lim is 103 years old and has been painting scenes of Singapore since 1946.
He is known for his persistent innovation in ink painting and calligraphy, infusing contemporary relevance into ancient practices.
Over the years he developed his own artistic language and distinct calligraphic style, “hutuzi.”
He was fueled by a drive to achieve freedom in his artistic expression. (sound familiar, artists?)
