Dick Sheremeta Woodworker/Furniture Maker

Dick Sheremeta Woodworker/Furniture Maker I've been doing woodwork ever since I was a little shaver, many many years ago. As the years progressed, so did my interest and knowledge in woodworking.

My creativity ranges from unique one-of-a-kind furniture pieces to useful kitchen gadgets and home decor. My interest and experience in woodworking started when I was a youngster when I first started making "Battleships" in my parent's basement from scraps of wood. I've been doing woodworking now for over 50 years making unique furniture pieces as well as home decor. My work has been exhibited in many galleries over the years and I am the recipient of numerous awards.

Here's the latest restoration. It's a Stanley/Bailey No. 5-1/2C, Type 8 - vintage 1899-1902 and it's in remarkably good shape for being well over a hundred years old with nice patina. Iron is almost original length and has been sharpened and lapped. There is no pitting, cracks or breaks. All rust has been removed or treated with Loctite Extend. Sole has been flattened. All parts have been paste waxed. This one is for sale - $150 plus shipping.

Just finished the complete restoration of another plane which was graciously given to me recently by an old friend. It's a vintage Stanley/Bailey No. 4 Type 19 Plane, manufactured from 1948-1961.

The first picture shows the completed plane accompanied by a paper-thin shaving it yielded on its very first trial run. The second picture shows the plane as received prior to the restoration process. Can't wait to put it to use in my shop soon.

As always, I'd be more than happy to share all the steps in restoring a plane such as this for anyone that may be interested - just ask in a comment or message me directly.

Latest plane added to my collection. It's a Stanley No. 5 Type 19. It was in decent condition when I got it, but now it's almost like brand new. Total restoration, without going overboard. All parts cleaned with Simple Green and minor surface rust removed with 0000 steel wool. Iron flattened and sharpened to 25° with 35° micro bevel; and cap iron lapped smooth. Heavy coating of finish on K**b and Tote (inherent on Type 19's) removed with lacquer thinner and steel wool to reveal beautiful sound Rosewood with virtually no blemishes. All original Japanning was intact. Sole lapped flat and everything coated with paste wax. Needless to say - a great find that I'm looking forward to put to use in my shop.
