On March 12th, 2023-I started take two on the 90’s cartoon collage. Come the following day, it would go on to sit for months. I would tuck it behind other paintings and never look at it again. I couldn’t do it. I started it the day before my dad died and it just…hurt too much.
By mid-May, my son picked it up and asked me why I hadn’t worked on it. “The person your mom was when she started that painting is gone. She will never be that person again, because that person still had her dad.” Reed looked at me, grabbed my hand and said “I think pap would want you to finish it. He wouldn’t want to you to stop creating because he loved when you did art. You should really finish it, for him and for you”
And I did. By the end of that same May, I finished it.
This was the 3rd Art All Night I’ve done and the 3rd anniversary of his death was March 13th. This is the one went for my dad, who was often called Art by those who knew him best.
