Next Festival: The Purple Painted Lady Festival 9/19 & 9/20 2026

I am a wife and mother to a 24 year old who is in the process of making me a grandma! I have been a crafter for as long as I can remember and started thrifting about 5 years ago - estate sales are my kryptonite! I only pick up or purchase pieces of furniture that I would use in my own home. My goal is to create pieces YOU will love as much as I do!

Hi Friends - I hope you all had a great weekend! I definitely did - I did a play date and sleepover with Charlie 🄰 AND Syd came on Saturday to help with project ā€œfurnitureā€. Great news - Syd is joining me in Furniture in Bloom!! We’ll spend some more time on that in a future post. It’s a little scary but I literally have 30 pieces I am juggling in various stages of completion 😳. I will have a few ready to share this week (I know I said that in my last post but it really is going to happen this week!!).

In the meantime, I did want to share a funny story from this past week. I was on my way to my 8am shift at The Paper Store on Wednesday. Driving down French Rd listening to my audiobook - Lessons in Chemistry (if you haven’t listened to it or read it, I highly recommend it) - and I spy a small table on the side of the road. I have such a weakness for small tables so I had to turn around and pick it up! Scotty and Syd have always feared side of the road furniture especially if I was driving šŸ˜‚. I thought of them and laughed the whole time I was turning around knowing they would have been trying to talk me out of it. Here is the before picture (tell me you could have passed this up). The after picture will have to wait until after the festival. I think I want to try stained wood on top with a painted bottom - what do you think?

Hi friends -
I cannot believe it’s mid-August already and the festival is about a month away. It’s been such a busy year and those close to me, who are concerned for my stress level, have suggested that maybe I should forego the festival this year. In my mind that is not a possibility for a couple of reasons - one, I made a commitment and I will stand by that and two, I want to do it. It’s something I enjoy and I do it for me! Now, I totally understand where they are coming from as evidenced by this past week. I (and others) helped Syd and Howie move to their new house in Buffalo. Tuesday started out with a quick flight to Boston, helping load the u-haul, then I drove all 26ft of that u-haul to Rochester (I can do without that experience again - those seats are the worst!), and ended the week with 3 trips to Buffalo. It was a brutal week but I am so excited to have them and Charlie closer ā¤ļø. Needless to say, nothing got painted during those days - I am trying to make up for it today and tomorrow. Hopefully I will have some before/after pictures for you by Tuesday.

What are your thoughts on the ā€œsmallsā€ from my latest haul? They spoke to me. Some louder than others šŸ˜‚ so I had to bring them home! Watch for pictures of their transformation.

Hi Friends -
I had to get my haircut this morning! My barber just happens to be located right down the street from one of the estate sales I went to yesterday. Being so close I thought I would stop in to see if the few pieces I had my eye on yesterday were still there! This sale was being put on by one of my favorite companies, Flour City Estate Sales. The pieces were still there and it was the last day so they were 50% off! Of course I had to bring them home! This company has 3 sales next weekend - my slush fund could be in trouble!!! Since I was so close to Penfield I decided to run by another sale from yesterday that was also in the last day to check on a dresser that I loved for our spare bedroom. The dresser, unfortunately for me, was already sold but I did find a few interesting gems that came home with me! And as I was coming home I saw another estate sale sign across from my street - it was fate and I had to stop for a quick peak!!! Some would say I have a bit of an addition to estate sales (I’m looking at you Scott RobinsonšŸ˜‚)!

Here is today’s haul. I am very pleased to report that as I post this, all pieces from yesterday and today have been cleaned and the hardware removed and are ready to be sanded tomorrow! In the near future I will try to do a video on how I pick my pieces.

Are there any pieces in today’s haul that you have an idea on how it should be done? Leave me a comment if you have an idea about style or color or embellishments. I would love to hear your thoughts.

Hopefully by end of day tomorrow I will have a before and after photo to share of the piece I am working on right now.

Hi Friends - Happy Friday -
I have been off the grid for a while, and I apologize for the lack of posts. Thanks for sticking with me! Since I last posted I have become a grandmother and mother-in-law, moved my in-laws to a Sr Independent Living Facility, and worked full-time for the holidays. Getting through all of that caused my furniture "fun" to take a backseat but now I AM BACK!

I am feverously getting pieces ready for The Purple Painted Lady festival in September - it is only 57 days away (Yikes!). I am brainstorming ideas on how to make my booth and pieces better for this year. Each post I will pose a question for feedback to see if I am on the right track - I look forward to hearing from you all! One thought I had is to include more smaller pieces such as mirrors, door signs, stools, frames, pots, and boxes to name a few. What do you think - leave me a comment with your thoughts on that idea.

I also thought I would share my estate sale / Goodwill haul from this past week. Anyone who knows me well knows that estate sales are my kryptonite! I visited 3 today! These are "as is" from my car. They will get a bath, sanded, and paint before I am done. I will start to post before and after pictures as I go so stay tuned!

Hi friends -
Wow I can’t believe how tired I was after the festival. I think I have finally caught up on all the things I had on hold while I was getting ready for the festival.

I am leaving for a river cruise on the Danube with Janet, my college roommate, this Thursday - we are celebrating a milestone birthday this year!!! When I get back I am going to have a sale on the furniture I didn’t sell at the festival. I am going to post the pieces here before putting the on FB marketplace. If you are interested in any of them, let me know.

Also, when Janet and I take a trip, we ā€œFacebook blogā€ each day. If you are interested in virtually coming with us and you aren’t friends with me on my personal FB page send me a friend request 😊.

Thanks for visiting my page and stay tuned for furniture pictures!

Hi Friends -
Day 1 of the festival is ā€œa wrapā€ and what a fantastic day it was! We couldn’t have asked for better weather. I want to thank each of you who made a special to the festival to come and see me. It was wonderful to connect with old friends! Hoping tomorrow is just as fun if not better!

Here is a picture of a piece I finished in the wee hours of the morning. I love how it turned out!

Hope to see many of you tomorrow šŸ’•

Hi Friends -
TODAY IS THE DAY! What a week it has been! I just finished the last piece (at 12:15 am on festival day - story of my life!!). My self imposed ā€œdone painting by Wednesdayā€ didn’t happen šŸ˜‚. But I did get 22 pieces completed and 17 of them are in the tent at my booth! The other 5 were getting the final top coat and will go in the morning.

I am beyond excited for this experience. When Scotty and I were delivering the furniture to the tent, there was so much activity and an element of excitement throughout the venue (and a lot of hard work going on). It is mind boggling the attention to detail and coordination - it gives new meaning to ā€œit takes a villageā€.

When you come to the festival, please stop by and see me - remember Orange #66. I am going to do a video in the morning after I put the finishing touches on my booth. I will post it here. In the meantime, here are a couple of pictures I haven’t posted yet.

Thank you for visiting my page. Hope to see you this weekend 😊

Hi Friends -
The process has started! Wednesday vendors for the festival could start setting up. I love my site - Orange #66 - across from the food trucks. I just set the tent up today since I still had furniture to paint - down to my last 4 pieces and then I have to be done for this year’s festival! Decorating and bringing over my furniture will happen on Friday. Shout out to my cousins - Donna for letting me borrow the tent, and Karen and Mark for helping Scotty and I put up the tent.

My booth neighbor, Soul Essence - Earthly Goods, was setting up at the same time as I was. She was so welcoming and gave me great tips for the set-up.

If you have never been to the festival, this is the year to go. Make sure to come and visit me! It’s going to be a great weekend.

I will post more pictures of my furniture later today when I switch from painting mode to organizational frenzy mode!!
