My first attempt at cat mugs with koi fish at the bottom are in the kiln. It doesn’t look very colorful but it will be. Can’t wait to see how these colors come out. It could be amazing or ……..

I like to record my throwing sometimes however, my kids are home from college. I've lost control of my studio, and my son interpreted "don't touch it" as "see if your head fits in it."

Turns out it does.🙄

Here is the begining of my 3rd collection line. This one I’m calling: Driftwood Garden. Im leaving the outside of the pieces in its natural color but adding a clear glaze so that the clay can be unaltered. The inside, I’m going to make a mottled seafoam color. I had a test pot that I was waiting for the right feel to use it. I think it will be a beautiful compliment to the natural brown clay. Now to make more matching pieces to go with it.

Little change for the teapot this morning. Last night, I wasn’t quite happy with the whale and lettering side. I think the whale drew your eyes to the spout and it just wasn’t working for me. So first thing I did was remove the entire side to match with the simpler and more elegant other side. Added some white slip trail and I’m much happier with it now. What do you think? Was this a better choice?

This wonky pot crafted from recycled clay was intended as a trial, yet it seemed to have a greater purpose. The lid still needs to be tweaked a bit after it firms up more.

This week I’ve been working on something new, oil dispensers. If I measured correctly for the 11% shrinkage, my stoppers should fit after firing. But anyone that knows me well, knows math doesn’t always math with me 🤣 Made a couple large starfish bowls with carvings on the outside. I already have my glazing ideas ready to go!

In a world filled with perfectly identical, machine-made products, handmade pottery offers something different: evidence of a human hand. A slight ripple in the clay, a tiny variation in the glaze, or a subtle asymmetry isn’t a flaw—it’s a reminder that a real person shaped it, one touch at a time.

Perfection isn’t the goal of handmade work. Connection is. Every piece carries traces of its maker: fingerprints softened into the clay, marks left by tools, decisions made in the moment, and practice behind every curve. These small imperfections tell the story of the hands that created it.

When you hold a handmade piece, you’re holding something that has never existed before and will never exist in exactly the same way again. In a world built for speed and mass production, there is something comforting about owning an object that bears the gentle indentation of the person who made it. Those imperfections aren’t mistakes—they’re proof that someone was here, creating something with care, patience, and a little piece of themselves.

Every handmade piece leaves an impression of the maker, and in return, becomes part of the story of the person who brings it home. ❤️

What I love about pottery is the lack of waste. Today, I'm recycling my leftover bits and 'oops' moments (there have been a few 🤪). This chunk of clay weighs about 15 pounds, and I'll be busy over the next few days getting it reuse-ready. I've got another bucket to tackle after this one, filled with around 20-25 pounds of white clay. It's sitting on a cement board, which basically absorbs excess moisture. Once it reaches the perfect consistency of leather hard, I'll wedge it up and stash it away in plastic bags for future use. 🙂
