✨ Why Playrooms & Sensory Spaces Will Always Be My Favorite Projects ✨
People often ask me what my favorite spaces are to design, and without hesitation, it’s playrooms and sensory rooms. As a mom of four (now 15, 13, 10, and 7), I don’t have “little kids” in the house anymore. But the importance of thoughtful, intentional spaces for children has never left me.
In 2020, my youngest son Jasper was diagnosed with level 3 autism. He’s now 7 and non-verbal. Designing sensory-friendly spaces isn’t just something I do, it’s deeply personal. I’ve seen firsthand how the right environment can support regulation, creativity, calm, and growth. And here’s the thing: sensory spaces aren’t just for children with special needs. All kids benefit from spaces where they can move their bodies, decompress, explore textures, colors, and light, and feel safe being exactly who they are. A well-designed playroom or sensory space isn’t about clutter or chaos, it’s about intention. It’s about creating a space that meets kids where they are developmentally, emotionally, and physically… while still feeling beautiful and cohesive within your home.
Designing these rooms allows me to combine my love for design with my lived experience as a mom, and it’s why these projects will always hold a special place in my heart.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your child would benefit from a more intentional play or sensory space, the answer is almost always yes 🤍
