SE Portland Basement Renovation — Art & Visual Storytelling

Art has the power to completely transform how a space feels. In this project, artwork became the connective thread that helped carry the design and color story from room to room.

Each piece was intentionally selected to complement the home’s mid-century roots while adding warmth, personality, and visual rhythm throughout the basement renovation. Vintage finds, graphic prints, ceramics, and sculptural elements were layered to create moments of discovery and delight across the space.

Rather than treating art as an afterthought, we approached it as an integral design element—anchoring color palettes, reinforcing the overall aesthetic, and bringing personality into each room.

Highlights:
• Curated vintage + contemporary pieces
• Thoughtful placement to enhance flow and focal points
• Art that reinforces the home’s 1960s–70s design language

When thoughtfully curated, art doesn’t just decorate a room, it gives the space its voice.

✨ If you’re ready for a home that feels layered, personal, considered and supportive, we can bring your vision to life.

SE Portland Basement Renovation—Styling, Plantscaping & Vintage Details

The final layer of this renovation was all about bringing the space to life.

Through thoughtful styling, plantscaping, and carefully chosen vintage pieces, we added warmth, texture, and personality throughout the basement.

Plants soften architectural lines and bring vitality into the environment, while vintage objects connect the newly renovated spaces with the home’s original mid-century character.

Styling priorities:
• Biophilic design through integrated plantscaping
• Vintage pieces that celebrate the home’s era
• Layered textures, objects, and materials
• Thoughtful details that elevate everyday living

✨ Beautiful, comfortable, functional spaces are built layer by layer with intention and careful attention to detail.

SE Portland Basement Renovation—Bedroom & Bathroom

These once-dated basement rooms were fully reimagined into bright, welcoming, highly functional spaces that feel calm, intentional, & deliciously livable.

Our approach focused on honoring the home’s original 1960s–70s character while thoughtfully upgrading comfort, durability, and daily usability. By preserving existing vintage millwork, hardwood trim, and fixtures—and layering in strategic design updates—we created spaces that feel elevated, cohesive, and timeless.

Design priorities:
• Comfort, convenience & quality
• Durability + ease of upkeep
• Thoughtful integration of vintage features
• Cohesive design + color story throughout
• Layered, warm, functional lighting

Bathroom updates include:
New hardware, fresh paint, curated storage, soft goods, accessories, art, plantscaping, and styling—fully stocked with thoughtful conveniences to enhance everyday comfort.

Bedroom updates include:
New flooring for durability and easy maintenance, fresh paint, layered lighting, custom locally-made nightstands, a king bed with velvet headboard, high-quality bedding, art, and decor, creating a cozy, grounded retreat.

✨ Thoughtful design transforms how a space feels and how it functions. If you’re ready for a home or work environment that truly supports and celebrates your life, we’d love to work with you.

SE Portland Basement Renovation—Living + Lounge Room

This once-dark, underutilized basement was transformed into a warm, inviting living room and lounge designed for connection, relaxation, and everyday joy.

From cozy movie nights by the fire to lively games of billiards with friends, this space was carefully planned to support multiple ways of living without sacrificing flow, comfort, or visual harmony. Furnishings were selected to carve out purposeful micro-zones, creating a livable, layered environment that feels both expansive and intimate.

Design priorities:
• Comfort + livability
• Durable, high-quality materials
• Distinct functional zones
• Cohesive design + color story
• Layered, warm, adjustable lighting

Highlights include a fireside lounge with true ’70s living room vibes, a social gathering zone near the bar, and a dedicated billiards area with ample seating. Styling and art, led by our talented designer Lyla, feature curated vintage pieces (some from our personal collections) and German + American MCM pottery, grounding the space in character and soul.

One of the most rewarding moments? Unearthing and restoring the home’s original ceiling beam work—a stunning architectural feature that now anchors the entire room and celebrates the home’s mid-century roots.

✨ When design, planning, and craftsmanship align, the result is more than beautiful, it’s livable, sustainable and delightful!

Dining Room & Coat+Furnace Closet

What used to be wasted square footage is now a coat, storage and furnace closet as well as an inviting, multifunctional dining nook, perfect for coffee with a friend, a quiet meal, or a cozy puzzle session! By carving out a dedicated moment of pause within the larger renovation, we created a space that’s useful and feels intimate, intentional, and effortlessly livable.

Our Dining Nook Design Priorities
• A comfortable, functional place to gather
• A sense of separation without closing off the space
• Thoughtful details that anchor the nook and complement the overall design

Coat & Furnace Closet Goals
• Enclose the furnace cleanly while maximizing usability
• Create purposeful storage for linens, luggage, plantcare, and household essentials
• Add a hang bar and adjustable shelving for seasonal coats and shoes

Small spaces require smart thinking—and this one now works beautifully, every single day. The coat closet is stocked with coat hangers, linens for the extra bedding, plant care supplies, utility supplies like batteries and lightbulbs, an air filter and extra filters, plus plenty of additional storage space!
