The summer held me like a vessel, gently embracing my work and this show. Contained, yet with so much to carry forward into the next body of work. Thank you to everyone who made time to see 𝘐𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘳𝘵𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘭 𝘊𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘰𝘯, collect the work into your homes, and connect in conversation. Sharing this show with some of my oldest friends and colleagues has brought me full circle in ways that are difficult to express.

It is said the personal is universal. I believe the language of nature allows us to process and lifts us up with its eternal optimism. My heart is bolstered; ready to bring more ideas forward.

Our awareness floats in the atmosphere as we rise, called to the energy of the moon. The moon and planetary bodies- our neighbors in our corner of the universe remind us of the gentle eternal flow of life, existing before us, continuing after us.

It’s been a pleasure hearing how the work resonates with everyone, seeing work find homes, and experiencing the different aspects of my practice in relationship.

This piece takes visual cues from coral and anemone and some found specimen along the coast. It is about heart- the ways we conceal it, protect it, wind it up tight. For me it happened from great loss in my family, the falling away or relationships, the disappointment from being unsupported. That tightness and closing of our hearts can happen for so many reasons- trauma, loss, arguments, missed opportunity. However, if we are careful to hold the kernel of hope deep within us, we can once again awaken. That place deep within us and from the love of others is a never-ending wellspring. This piece is about that love from our relationships, from within ourselves, and shining back deeply from the universe that softens us so we may open and bloom.

The two large vessels in this show, 𝘜𝘯𝘧𝘰𝘭𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘈𝘴 𝘐𝘵 𝘞𝘪𝘭𝘭 and 𝘜𝘯𝘳𝘢𝘷𝘦𝘭 𝘔𝘺 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘳𝘵 were conceived recently on a visit to the beaches in Santa Cruz, nestled in the intricate geologies there. Panther Beach specifically is home to the largest sedimentary injection deposits in the world, with wavy laminated sandstone. The large rock face cradles the beach. It is private and beautiful and also dangerous. The rock has been pounded with erosion, revealing incredible movement and beauty in the harder stone elements.

Thank you everyone for coming out to the artist talk after / time gallery today. It was such a treat to share my work more in depth. You are all such wonderful humans.

I’ll be sharing more of the pieces here this week with my thinking as I was making them.

It’s hard to believe the show is about to come down next Saturday, but it has been incredible to see the work in this beautiful space. Here is your nudge to come by if you haven’t yet. Many pieces have found homes, but there are a few still available.

Watercolor work is the most intimate part of my practice. Until this show, it has not been presented. The work lives in intimacy like the ceramics, inviting closer looks with delicate brush work and ethereal forms. Gentle overlapping layers build into focus and revolve around one another.

They explore relationships intimately using forms from cells, botanicals, planetary orbits, and the stars.

This piece and its kin, 𝘗𝘳𝘦𝘴𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘉𝘳𝘦𝘢𝘵𝘩 were painted close to one another, one after the other. Personally this was a difficult time, very close after the caregiving and death of my loved one. I moved deeply into meditation and nature walking as a means to process and survive intense grief. These pieces were a response and investigation of intense feelings in the wake of loss, the vast emptiness of grief after the event and the kernel of hope we turn over and over again to reignite it’s spark to get back up.

Two beings in relationship revolve above what could be an emotional weight or event in time. They are engaged in reciprocating exchange of love, life, experience. I was exploring the importance of relationship and friendship in the midst of the ever moving currents of our lives and the events that hold sway over them. The love in our lives carry us.

The Glow Embraced Us

This piece holds hope deeply, like many of my works. Form and movement come directly from a cherished landscape on the coast, where I sat cradled in a cove. The movement through the piece is symbolic of outer events in our lives and the little forms in the glaze as beings. Caught in the flow, we float cradled and carried, in relationship and conversation. Glaze is utilized to create great depth that bring out the sculptural elements. Floating elements are layered on top much like emotions and our consciousness float in the surface of our lives.

Many of the works in the show happened at times of great transition which is unavoidable for many of us. Whether it is loss, illness, loss, death, it is a part of living to experience these difficulties. In the landscape we can find hope and know that this will also pass, giving way to joy and new chapters.

The pieces that were collected at showcase included work that I’ve been creating quietly and deeply. The pieces ranged from large sculptural work to intimate wall pieces.

This collection of vases, vessels, and artworks are created from the forms of the sea and cosmos, somewhere between the depths of the ocean and the birth of stars.

The beings these pieces become speak to the beauty of the universe, its patterns, and how we are intimately connected.

These pieces feature a variety of techniques- wheel thrown + altered, sculpted. A few are completely handbuilt. Glaze work applied in a painterly watercolor effect, techniques I’ve been chasing for years and am so excited to expand upon.

If you’ve collected or appreciated, thank you deeply. Each work opens my vision a little wider for more to come through.

I’m thrilled call new pieces into being and fill my studio again. I’m creating some specific prompts to dig in deeply. There are some incredible opportunities coming up!
