There is something magical about crepe paper. It stretches, it shapes, and it holds a curve like a real petal. Even as a beginner, you can create flowers that look like you picked them from the garden.
This is Lesson 1 of our new free Crepe Paper Flower Foundation Series. In 2015 we teamed up with Werola in Germany to bring high quality crepe paper to the U.S. Ten years of designing, testing and teaching later, Meagan and I have put everything we know into 20 short videos. The series is the companion to Chapter One of Paper Flower Garden.
Pause, rewatch, craft along. Come back whenever you need a refresher.

In today’s Friday workshop, we will be making this Crepe Paper Buckeye Belle Peony! Because this is an advanced project, plan to take your time with the shaping. A gentle, steady stretch gives smoother curves than one quick pull, and that’s especially true with darker papers, where every crease shows.

On the last morning of our summit, I drove to the studio and realized the whole weekend had felt different. Twenty women were simply making, and it showed in the laughter, the concentration, and the curiosity around every table.
Some had been with us for years and have become skilled flower makers. Others were completely new faces. It didn’t matter.
Everyone left with a bouquet of crepe paper flowers and a few new friends.
There’s always room at the table 💕💐
