A few BTS pics of the fabrication process that went in to building the paddy wagon for 's insanely cool new music video .
The build took about 8 days and involved multiple mediums and techniques. In the end, the body was made entirely of , some of which was vacuum formed from sculpts we created using prototyping foam (sculpted by hand) as well as good old fashioned model making techniques. We glued everything together with weld-on and seamed it with Bondo, followed by lots of patient sanding.
The last picture shows all the little 'prop' details that were added for final assembly after it had been painted.
We get asked a lot if we do any 3-D printing and the answer is generally no. With the tight turnaround we usually have to work with, coupled with and so many components that need to interact together, believe it or not, handmade is often faster since there is so little time to plan. Making things by hand allows for quick and easy modification to little surprises that continually pop up throughout the build. While 3-D printing does have its advantages in some areas, it's not always the fastest route. Plus handmade is way more fun π
