There’s something really special about designing for a 13-year-old who’s been watching, waiting, and dreaming from the sidelines. She’s not just stepping into a new room—she’s stepping into a space that finally reflects her own voice, her own style, and everything she’s been quietly envisioning all along. ✨

Finley has been following along for years as I designed spaces in her home for her mom—always asking, “When will it be my turn?” 💕 She came prepared, too… Pinterest boards lined up, and a vision ready. This year, for her birthday, that wish came true.

It was so important to create a space that doesn’t just feel perfect for 13, but will carry her beautifully through high school. The duvet truly set the tone—pulling together every color she dreamed of while acting as a piece of abstract art and a focal point that complements (not competes with) the stunning trim wall we added - obsesseddddd with that paint color. (Thank you, Keith for squeezing this in for us!!)

We layered in the softest, most feminine blush tones to tie everything together, and the lighting might be one of my favorite parts— a floral fandelier paired with the most fun stacked petal lamps that completely stole my heart. 😍

We updated the furniture with a fluted white oak bed and dresser, added larger glam nightstands for extra storage, and patiently waited for the perfect scalloped rug to echo the curtains. Every detail works together to make the room feel bigger, brighter, and so beautifully her. We added a shelf above her vanity to add some height, and threw in some beautiful watercolor Charleston prints throughout.

Happy 13th, Finley! 🫶🏻✨🌸

Some traditions are just too meaningful to miss. 💫

So grateful my husband encouraged me to step away for a bit and attend my 14th High Point Market ( )—alongside three incredible women who have shown up so faithfully during this season in so many ways. 🤍🤍🤍

Thank you for being the perfect distraction. I loved soaking in all the beautiful trends and dreaming up ideas for so many future projects. Feeling inspired and refreshed. 🙏🏻💕

We had to complete the Southern boy dream with a bathroom update too. For 25 years it got the job done—but a thoughtful facelift made all the difference.

We carried new tile throughout, leaning into his love for clean lines and neutrals. To add contrast, we installed a walnut grooved floating vanity with smart storage for the everyday essentials. A simple floating shelf keeps towels or extra supplies within reach without cluttering the space.

The quartzite countertop completely steals the show. We finished it off with updated lighting and a modern shower system, including a handheld wand that makes cleaning as easy as it is functional.

Somewhere between boyhood and grown-up style—his space is starting to reflect it.

Wrapping up the week doing work that fills my cup and brings joy to my clients. In the middle of everything, these moments mean more than ever. I was in the middle of several projects when our whole world turned upside down, and my clients and contractors have been incredibly patient and accommodating as I shifted my focus to the one person who matters most right now. 🙏🏻

This particular project energized my soul. He’s the same age as my son—a client whose family I’ve worked with for six years—and they’ve been some of our biggest prayer warriors. So deserving of being part of this “wrap-up tour.”

We gave this soon-to-be teen’s room a southern preppy refresh—extra tall board and batten paired perfectly with wallpaper, and a blue chosen to match his favorite team, Manchester City. Two-toned, masculine furniture he can grow into, with plenty of storage throughout. The navy desk adds the perfect pop against the blue molding, while the white oak keeps it light and bright. We swapped the old light for a new fan and added sconces for extra warmth. And we’ve been patiently waiting on the perfect table lamps—finally arriving later this month. Safe to say, this room is ready for everything ahead… even if he never leaves it except for sports, school, and food.

This isn’t goodbye—it’s see you later. The Joy By Design comeback tour is coming, and it’s going to be off the rails. Thank you for being here, for the prayers, and for walking this journey with us. 🙏🏻🩵💫

To my amazing clients and community—

For now, I won’t be taking on any new projects as I walk through a family emergency and focus on what matters most: my people and bringing as much joy and peace into our own home as possible.

This pause hasn’t been easy, but it has been clarifying. I’m holding close to the belief that even on the heaviest days, there are still moments of light—and sometimes we have to create that light ourselves. Pouring into our home right now has brought a sense of comfort I can’t fully put into words.

To my current clients—thank you. Your grace, patience, and understanding mean more than you know. I am truly so eager and excited to return to the beautiful projects we’ve temporarily placed on hold and give them the attention they deserve.

If you’re hoping to work together in the future, I would love that. We already have a queue forming, and Jessica is available to help get you on the list—just send a DM and she’ll take great care of you.

Thank you for your continued support, kindness, and understanding during this time. 🤍🤍🤍

All my love,
Janet 🙏🏻

A guest bedroom should feel like a quiet escape—layers of soft linens, cozy textures, and the kind of comfort that makes you want to curl up and forget where you are… as if you’ve checked into your own little vacation. Goal achieved. 💫

, thank you for bringing this vision to life!!!

The boucle and white oak bed set the tone—organic warmth meets understated luxury. Wood and leather nightstands anchor the space, each paired with its own adjustable nightlight and dedicated switch for ease and comfort.

This moody artwork inspired everything—from the wall color to the deep green velvet curtains. Layers of texture and pattern come together to create a rich, inviting palette throughout the bedding. At the foot of the bed, a bench with fresh linens awaits the next guest, while two luggage racks are tucked neatly in the closet.

A cozy club chair offers the perfect spot to unwind and take in the tongue-and-groove ceiling, finished with white oak beams that complete the space.

I daydreamed about this room for seven months—and it was worth every second. 😍

The best spaces aren’t just designed—they’re lived in: a game of pool, sports on the screen, old friends around the bar, and every drink you could want within reach. And the best part? Even on a whim, you can have the best seat in the house—no reservations required.

Seeing the vision when there isn’t even a starting idea is one of the hardest parts of design. Watching that vision come to life is one of the most fulfilling feelings imaginable. I’m eternally grateful these clients trusted me to bring their basement dreams to life after 12 years of daydreaming about it.

didn’t miss a single detail. From the moment you walk down the stairs and see the iron balusters, you know you’re stepping into something special. A perfectly centered pool table ensures full clearance no matter where you take your shot. The bar is stocked with every kind of liquor you could imagine (and more!)—thankfully locked up so the teens can’t get into it.

Gold mesh cabinet fronts soften the upper cabinets and add beautiful texture. A double keg on tap keeps your favorite beer of the moment flowing, while a chrome gentleman’s faucet paired with a hammered copper beverage sink makes this a true bartender’s dream. Choose your ice—whiskey balls or from the built-in ice maker. A hidden dishwasher and discreet trash and recycling pull-out keep everything seamlessly tucked away within the extended bar.

The tile and paint pairing create a smooth monochromatic palette, while the glossy tile adds just the right amount of dimension. Black and brass pendants cast the most beautiful glow over the stunning quartzite. White oak custom floating shelves tie into the island cabinetry—complete with fluted detailing in the back and a custom foot rail that finishes the space perfectly.

Standing at the bar, shooting pool, or sitting in the leather and brass stools—there truly isn’t a bad seat in the house. This space was thoughtfully orchestrated to feel modern yet timeless, and it’s an investment that will significantly increase the home’s resale value.

A million selections went into bringing this project to life—and we did it.

Cheers! 🍸

This install was a bittersweet one.

A repeat client brought me back in knowing her days with twin teens under this roof are numbered. College is on the horizon, and she wanted to create a space so good… leaving would feel just a little harder.

The goal?
Design a room that makes their home "the house."
The one where friends gather.
The one nobody wants to leave.

And at the same time — ensure it adds serious resale value when the time comes to sell.

We transformed the space into a full-on theater lounge with an 85" TV.

A new plush sectional anchors the room, but we reoriented it so you don’t walk straight into the side of a sofa. The flow matters. The room now feels open, intentional, and inviting the second you step inside.

Teens love comfort — so a silky chenille fabric was non-negotiable. Faux fur pillows? Mandatory.

Instead of going black on the walls, we chose a rich, earthy, moody hue to keep it dramatic but elevated. A more monochromatic feel keeps it sophisticated, while heavy velvet blackout drapes set the stage for prime movie nights. The vintage minimalistic art pieces were the butter on the popcorn.

Speaking of popcorn... let’s be honest…

Where there is food, teens will follow. Facts.

We created a full popcorn bar — all the fixins included. Multiple candies, popcorn flavorings, fun disposable containers. A mini fridge stocked with essentials (Poppi, of course). And a refillable decorative bowl filled with snack-sized chips because the most popular house on the block is always the one with the best pantry.

It makes my heart so happy knowing these walls are already breathing new life.

And the biggest bonus? The parents love it so much they’re joining in on the teen fun too.

Because at the end of the day, the best design isn’t just about resale value.
It’s about creating spaces that hold memories — especially during seasons that move way too fast. 🫶🏻
