Hi everyone! TEAR ALERT PLEASE HELP BLIND CYSON AND HIS GUIDING BUDDY PAPI OUT OF THE SHELTER. Due to a heart breaking forced surrender (no fault of the owner, heartbreaking situation) this beautiful pup and his companion have been at the shelter since September. The shelter is no place for any animal and especially an amazing loving blind pet who have lived a happy loving life and forced into a kennel. Please SHARE and let's find a loving home for these 2 amazing shelter pups! Please go and meet Cyson and Papi at Animal Care & Protective Services (ACPS) on 2020 Forest Street.
CYSON: "There is a saying, "There is none so blind as those that cannot see." That saying doesn't apply to Cyson. That saying is reserved for those that look away .
Cyson, , at Animal Care & Protective Services shelter, 2020 Forest Street, is blind. Literally blind, and unseen by the general public in I run. On the "quiet side" of the shelter, where he is co-housed with Papi. They have been together since they entered the shelter together on September 5, 2025.
So, I have been falling down on my job. I consider it my job to make the general public aware of Cyson. To be his eyes To get him out of the run, get a feel for what he is about, and make the dog loving citizens of our community aware of Cyson.
So today was his day. To get him out without his protective big brother, Papi. We left the run with me guiding him on a short leash through the hallways, allowing him to lean into my leg as we maneuvered through the area to the back playyards. He did so well. He hung tight. When he did bump into anything, he immediate corrected using his head to absorb the slight bump. He is not a fish out of water on his walks. He functions well. I thank my fellow volunteers for the time they have put into Cyson for the skill he shows while walking.
I took him to a run which was fenced in. Cut him loose in the run to see how he would navigate his way around. I wish I had Cyson's courage. His "want to" in navigating strange places. He explored that entire run, self correcting when he would bump the fence or walk over the overturned pool. I let him explore. I would step in to pet him and he would reach for my hand. In the beginning just to locate my hand. For treats. Pets by me were initially foreign to him. Then we had our breakthrough. He was reaching for the pets. He would reach out and grab me around my legs and hold on. That is not necessarily good in a dog with sight..with a blind dog, I did not break that off quickly when he did that. I was his connection, literally. The next time I will wear pants to protect myself from his paws. When you make that connection it doesn't hurt. It doesn't matter..
In the yard, he found the chair and jumped up on it. He found my hand. He is already an expert in finding the treats.
He responds as well to attention as a dog that can see. If you have experience with a blind dog, you could be invaluable to Cyson. He can go to a home with or without Papi, who helps guide him through life. If you have another dog at your house that has experience with a blind sibling that would be amazing. I had no real experience with a blind dog until today. You know what I found out. The difficulty of dealing with a blind pup was mostly in my own head.
A blind pup responds to affection just as well as a sighted dog. Come to the shelter. Ask for Cyson. Let him be seen..
