Brazilian born, Miami-raised, long time Brooklynite and current resident of NY’s Hudson Valley, Ana Claudia is just as eclectic and diverse as her background. Her creation of thoughtful, contemporary interiors is an amalgamation of design styles incorporating eclectic vibrancy through modern, contemporary, and transitional elements. Clients’ needs are frequently met with custom pieces and out of the box solutions. The objective is to create a space that feels natural to the client yet is stylistically energized and fresh. Because “It’s about how you feel the moment you walk in the door.” An Architecture graduate of Florida International University, Ana Claudia worked in architecture for nearly a decade before realizing her true passion, interior design. Her interiors have been featured in such publications as Cultered, Goop, Rue Magazine, Domino Magazine, House Beautiful and HGTV. Ana Claudia is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers (ASID), Brick & Wonder, and Interior Collab. She co-owns Rhinebeck’s design gallery The Beck with her husband Aaron Smyle.

Renderings of our Midcentury Pearl River Project.

We have so many projects we didn't photograph, and a few were never completed. I'll share some with you as I clean up my files. It feels weird to share renderings instead of photographs, but it's a shame to leave them in the vault. They took time, heart, and effort to create. Want to know what we curated? My favorites: for flagstone flooring in the primary bathroom and in the kitchen. Who needs two hoods for one range? I thought we did 🙃

The devil is in the details. This clear switch plate detail seems simple, but, uh oh, we used a non-pattern-repeat wallpaper. Thanks to signsandwondersnyc for cutting the wallpaper to precision and placing it accurately behind the switch plate, it looks flawless.

I am re-rendering old designs and beating myself up for not photographing more of my previous projects. Either I had a low marketing budget, the decor was unfinished because clients wanted to finish the art and decor themselves, or I was too busy to return and photograph. I now know how important it is to give projects time- time to simmer, to make a design a home. Here are a few I wish I had photographed, and maybe I will photograph them years later!

I'm going to continue down memory lane, but sparingly share them since they are renderings. Comment Pinterest for my Pinterest link with all these project boards and products I procured. Lots of products I didn't use, too!

Gardening on Sunday (1961)

Some paintings look simple until you realize they are asking a harder question.

John Falter’s Gardening on Sunday looks like a humorous illustration about lawn care, but its meaning becomes sharper the longer we look. On one side of the image, a suburban homeowner stands outside his pink house carefully trimming his hedge. His yard is immaculate. The lawn is neat, the birdbath shines, and every detail suggests control, discipline, and pride.

Across the property line, the neighboring yard tells a completely different story. The grass is overgrown, children’s toys are scattered across the lawn, and a dog sleeps in the weeds. On the porch, the homeowner has fallen asleep with a newspaper over his face, seemingly unconcerned by the disorder around him.

The obvious reading is that the painting compares two kinds of people: one responsible and one careless. But Falter’s joke is more complicated than that. The man with the perfect yard is still working on his day off. His neatness comes at a cost. The hedge is no longer just a hedge; it has become another task that must be maintained.

The man in the messy yard may not have visual perfection, but he has something his neighbor does not: rest.

That is why the image still feels modern. Falter is not only comparing cleanliness and disorder. He is comparing maintenance and freedom. One side shows the pursuit of perfection. The other shows the acceptance of imperfection.

The real question is not which yard looks better. It is which life looks better?

BRINGING THE OLD AND BELOVED LIGHTING FROM THE PAST TO THEIR NEXT 100 YEARS OF LIFE.

Moxie Sparks finds that older lighting is made so well thought out and durable. The machining process was smart and of high quality. Things were built to last, and while style and beauty mattered, quality of work was always paramount.

With all that said, wiring and bulbs couldn't match those other areas. Their passion and focus are on letting the illumination and wiring add a modern, safe touch to the bodies of old.

So when they found a style of past lighting they were drawn to, they redid the interiors to bring everything up to date and did our best to preserve the outer shells in their original style and look.
