“Male Stag Beetle pinning class!

On September 18th at 6PM I will be hosting a beetle workshop with the fierce Hexarthrius parryi stag beetle!

During this workshop I will introduce you to my art, the specimen you will be working with then I'll use my 7 years experience to walk you through the pinning process from start to finish.

Cost - $85 per person. Includes everything you need to spread your own specimens in a TAKE HOME kit (pinning board, spreading paper, wing platforms, entomology pins, entomology tweezers (3 types), rehydration chamber, hydrated specimen, and a take home booklet made by me!)

DATE - September 18
TIME - 6PM
LOCATION - Book & Barrel- 96 Depot St. Ringgold
Ga. 30736

This is my FIRST beetle pinning class. It will be a fantastic opportunity for those who attended my buttertly / moth pinning class to expand their knowledge working with other types of specimens and is also a great way for beginners with know knowledge in pinning insects to learn the basics. Please book sooner than later so I'm able to know how many specimens to process ASAP and so you don't miss out!

I'm trying out a new method of booking for this workshop to make it a little easier for people to access and book more than one slot if they need. Before you had to back out and redo everything for each slot but this method should allow you to add the number of slots needed and process it in one transaction.

This is one of those rare times I post a little update about my life, and it’s a big one. I’ve told several of you about my plans to pursue a degree based around what started my business, my love for our beautiful planet and those who inhabit it.

Well, it’s time!

This previous Monday I began school at Dalton State College to pursue a bachelors degree in Environmental & Sustainability, so far I love it! I get to take super awesome classes to learn about our environment, rocks, animals, sustainability and so many other classes I’m so looking forward too. I also have to take math classes which I am so NOT looking forward to but I’ll cross that bridge when I get to it (hopefully pass it, I really suck at math).

ANYWAY, my plans for path of my life is to expand my knowledge and learn of MORE ways I can help this planet, possible careers that fit my mission, and also test the waters with internships/research programs. Mayyybeee even further that education into conservation and such, but that a WHILE (4 years to be exact) down the road so I have time to think.

If you’ve asked me why I started The Hammered Goose you’ve probably gotten an answer like “I really love bugs and animals, I want to be able to help & encourage others to do the same, it’s not for the money”, and I fully plan to continue that mission with you wonderful people that love my silly little bug business as much as I do. That being said, I will STILL be going full steam ahead with Hammered Goose & college.

I might be a little slim on stock at events / store fronts depending on the demands of college, but I still want to be out there showing people the beauties of our world / sharing my love for them so I’m going to work hard and keep up! Events will most likely not be as frequent to allow myself to rest, trades are closed and customs might experience some delays. If you need something by a certain date PLEASE let me know so I don’t miss it! If you message and I don’t get back to you within 1-2 days PLEASE message again! It’s still little ole me doing all of this so I might fall behind while I purse my degree but I GOT THIS!

Up next - Alpine Black Swallowtail 🦋

Needless to say my pinning workshop yesterday went FABULOUSLY and I got to meet some super amazing people and reunited with some familiar ones. They left with a beautiful spread specimen and I left with experience and excellent feedback I’ll be incorporating into this upcoming class.

Here’s a breakdown of the work shop

Supplies you will receive
- closed cell spreading board
- entomology pins
- Spreading paper (about 20 strips)
- 3 sets of tweezers to allow you to experiment with works best
- Rehydration Chamber to relax your own specimens
- a instruction booklet typed up by yours truly
- one Alpine Black Swallowtail

Through the class I’ll share information about me, entomology, the specimen we will be working with and more. I’ll guide everyone through how to pin, where to grab the wings, how to hydrate and more.
