World Wide Knit in Public Day is almost here, and we'd love to fill our section with fiber friends!

Join A Skein Away as we head to the ballpark to watch the Beloit Sky Carp take on the Quad Cities River Bandits—needles, hooks, and project bags in tow.

Whether you're knitting a sweater, crocheting a blanket, or just trying to get through the heel of a sock, this is the perfect excuse to stitch outside the house and spend an evening with fellow makers.

🧶 A New Chapter for Social Stitching at A Skein Away 🧶

After much thought, we've decided to retire our Thursday evening Evening Unravel gathering.

This wasn't an easy decision. Evening Unravel has been home to countless projects, conversations, laughs, problem-solving sessions, and friendships over the past year. We're so grateful to everyone who made Thursday nights such a special part of our community.

But don't put away your project bags just yet...

We're excited to introduce Sunday Stitches!

🕛 12:00 PM - 3:00 PM

Just like Evening Unravel, there's no sign-up required. Bring your knitting, crochet, spinning, embroidery, or whatever you're working on and join us for an afternoon of stitching and community.

And don't worry—Morning Loops on Thursdays at 10am is staying right where it is!

Thank you for helping us build such a wonderful fiber community. We can't wait to spend our Sunday afternoons stitching with you. 💚

☀️ Summer Hours Are Here! ☀️

As we head into summer, we're making a small adjustment to our shop hours.

Beginning this week, A Skein Away will be closed on Wednesdays and open Thursday through Sunday. Our hours on those days will remain unchanged.

This change gives us a little more time to balance classes, events, shop projects, and family while continuing to bring you the welcoming fiber community you've come to expect.

Don't worry—Morning Loops on Thursdays, Sunday Stitches, and all scheduled classes will continue as planned!

Thank you for your support, understanding, and for helping make A Skein Away such a special place. We can't wait to spend another summer stitching with you. 🧶💚

Some yarns walk into the shop and immediately become customer favorites… and Coven Collective absolutely falls into that category. ✨

Created by an incredibly talented group of creative women based out of Washington, Coven Collective is known for their stunning variegated colorways that somehow manage to be both bold and effortlessly wearable. We currently carry their beloved Spellbound Sock — a dreamy merino/nylon blend — along with their ethereal Moth Wing Mohair.

And because they somehow manage to make their yarn even more magical, each skein also comes with its own perfectly on-theme stitch marker. 🖤

From cozy socks to statement sweaters (and plenty in between), this yarn has become a true shop favorite around here. Honestly, it barely needs an introduction at this point… every restock seems to disappear into project bags almost immediately.

✨ FUN FIBER FACT ✨

Ever heard of qiviut (pronounced kiv-ee-ute)?

Qiviut is the ultra-soft undercoat fiber from the musk ox — an Arctic animal built to survive brutal winter temperatures. The fiber is collected when the musk ox naturally sheds in the spring (they aren’t shorn like sheep).

A few things that make qiviut special:
🧶 It’s often said to be up to 8x warmer than sheep’s wool by weight
🧶 Softer than cashmere
🧶 Contains very little lanolin, which some wool-sensitive people prefer
🧶 It doesn’t felt or shrink the way sheep’s wool can
🧶 It’s incredibly rare and expensive because each musk ox produces only a small amount each year

Basically: tiny cloud fiber from prehistoric-looking Arctic cows. 😌

Last weekend’s Skein Away Getaway was everything I hoped it would be and more. 💛

We spent hours knitting on the porch in absolutely beautiful weather, shared a lot of laughs, enabled each other’s yarn acquisitions (as one should), ate good food, and somehow turned a group of fiber people into an even closer little community by the end of the weekend.

There’s just something special about slowing down, stitching together, and spending time with people who understand why one more skein always feels necessary. 🧶

A huge thank you to everyone who attended and helped make the weekend so special. Your kindness, humor, creativity, and willingness to simply show up and enjoy the moment made this retreat better than I could have imagined.

I’m already looking forward to the next one.

Only one more week until Kids Fiber Craft Night! Have your kids join us for an evening of creativity, pizza, and fiber fun!

We'll have pizza 🍕, watch a movie 🎥, and try 2️⃣ popular fiber crafts: needle felting and crochet. No experience needed—just curiosity and a willingness to try something new.

Parents may drop off starting at 5:30pm, and kids should be picked up by 8:30pm.

Our Kids Fiber Nights are always such a blast! We hope your kids can join us!
