I’m delighted to be back in the classroom, teaching a graduate Interior Design Practice class at the New York School of Interior Design. The faculty, staff, and students have all been very welcoming, and I’m looking forward to a great semester. This class isn’t as creative as a studio, but it’s an important review of the knowledge you need to make sure your designs are implemented, and that your business runs smoothly.

Some of the most meaningful holiday decorations are handed down over generations. My great uncle built the stable we use to hold my parents’ now-vintage nativity set. It’s sitting on a record cabinet that I honestly wouldn’t purchase new, but which is very special since my father made it with his father. All of these items traveled the world with us when I was little. Some of the figurines are a little chipped, and a couple aren’t sized correctly, but they bring back good memories! I pair it with a tree filled with sentimental ornaments, saving the “designer” tree for our formal living room. What are some memorable pieces in your holiday decor?

Happy Halloween! I’m not really into scary stuff, but here are a few spooky photos from our travels this year. The eerie photo of the Dark Hedges in Northern Ireland may be familiar to Game of Thrones fans. Holiday decorations in Old Town Alexandria, VA, never disappoint—here are some colonial-era skeletons and a “jazz hands” skeleton wreath for my fellow Broadway fans!

We had more than 150 trick-or-treaters tonight, which is a record for us in this house! I hope you all had a wonderful and fun Halloween as well!

A little bit late, but I wanted to share photos of a great ASID NJ event earlier this month, at the stunning Bell Works space in Holmdel, NJ. Designed in 1958 by Eero Saarinen, it is now adapted for use as a "Metroburb" with event spaces, shops, offices, and entertainment. It's an amazing space, with huge volumes and many different attractions, surrounded by a beautiful landscape.

The trade show featured fabulous vendors showing furniture, bath fixtures, window treatments, custom closets, and door hardware. Designer Noel Gatts interviewed the legendary podcaster LuAnn Nigara, who gave us some thoughtful insights on how to grow our interior design businesses. The SubZero Wolf Cove NJ Showroom summarized some inspirational global trends in kitchen design.

The chapter welcomed its new board: Marilyn Lavergne, Paul Sarrubbo, Jeffrey McCullough,Susan Farcy and Suhah Jawad. I've enjoyed getting to know some of them and look forward to more events. It was also great fun to finally meet Sarah Fletcher in person--we had met many times on Zoom for ! She did a wonderful job helping to organize this event.

Some fall color to start the week! We designed beautiful custom cabinets, crafted by Woodmasters & Son, to match the existing stairs in this mid-century home. This family room now has a fully outfitted bar to provide drinks and snacks at a moment's notice. Colorful pillows warm up the sectional, upholstered in a rich blue-green. What a fun place to snuggle in on a fall day!

Are you watching the World Series? We designed this custom banquette to be a comfortable place for our client to watch baseball! It also has stain-resistant fabric so grandchildren can snack or color, and convenient outlets to charge a laptop for a work or study session. The drawers below the seats provide lots of storage. And it's an elegant place for dinner with friends!
