Businessperson of the Year Presented by Roseville Chamber of Commerce– John Shanahan
John, the owner of Lighthouse Window Cleaning, has been reflecting on a very special day after being recognized as Placer Valley's Businessperson of the Year. Receiving this honor has caused him to reflect on the last 18 years since starting his window cleaning business in the Placer region.
An old boss of John's once shared an impactful quote:
"Surround yourself with excellent people and get out of their way."
In 2008, John lost his corporate job and found himself unemployed with five children to support. Having washed windows in the past, he purchased some basic equipment and started his own window cleaning service.
Local Chambers
Franklin Burris was John's next-door neighbor and invited him to attend a Rocklin Chamber breakfast. At the time, Franklin was serving as President of the Rocklin Chamber. John found immense value in the Chamber and, through the connections he made, his business began to grow. He is grateful to Franklin for introducing him to the power of local Chambers of Commerce.
Since then, John has been a member of the Rocklin, Roseville, Loomis, and Lincoln Chambers of Commerce.
Team
Dave Ferry and Paul Kirtley help lead the Lighthouse Window Cleaning team of 15 technicians. Dave has been with Lighthouse for 16 years, and his leadership and work ethic have been an inspiration to the entire team. Paul brings 15 years of experience and strong leadership to the organization.
Tessy and JD keep the office running smoothly, supporting both clients and team members. John is thankful for the opportunity to provide meaningful employment and benefits to the Lighthouse Window Cleaning team.
Neighbors and Business Partners
Chris and Ashley of Hebbard Insurance in Loomis have supported Lighthouse's insurance needs. Brandon Wilcott of X Tech serves as the company's trusted IT and cybersecurity resource. All My Best Screen Printing in Rocklin provides team uniforms. Dawson Oil in Rocklin fuels the company's fleet vehicles, and Auto Tech is the trusted source for vehicle maintenance.
Franklin Burris also helped secure the lease for Lighthouse's warehouse and office in Rocklin. Mike Martin, Rick Seigle, and Kyle Barr have supported the company with video production and professional headshots. Jen Esparza of The Jen Advantage has provided marketing support, while Shane from MAJR is the go-to source for promotional products.
Why Buy New Autos in Rocklin has supplied Lighthouse with its fleet of vans. Sarah at TVB Business Services has supported payroll operations, and Margaux at Vista Bookkeeping keeps the company's financial records organized. Marshall from Clemons & Jaquish has provided guidance with incorporation and legal matters.
These are all valued relationships that were formed through involvement in our local Chambers of Commerce.
City of Rocklin
The City of Rocklin has been a strong supporter of small businesses through its investment in the Build Up Rocklin program. John was selected to participate in this year's cohort and is grateful to be part of a program led by Marcie Shelton and Jen Esparza, providing coaching, direction, and resources to help established businesses continue to grow and thrive in Rocklin.
Family
All five of John's children have worked in the business and gained valuable experience in a variety of roles. John has also been blessed by the support of his wife, Teresa. Her wisdom, encouragement, and deep faith continue to inspire the values of service that guide both their family and the company.
Service
Today, Lighthouse Window Cleaning serves many local businesses, helping storefronts and commercial properties make a strong first impression. The company also proudly provides residential services throughout the greater Placer Valley region.
Why Lighthouse?
A lighthouse is a symbol of strength, guidance, and light. Faith in God has always been a beacon that helps direct the company's values, ethics, and commitment to serving others.
Gratitude
John has followed his former boss's advice and truly surrounded Lighthouse Window Cleaning with excellent people. He is deeply grateful for the opportunity to work alongside an outstanding team, trusted business partners, supportive family members, and a vibrant community.
Most of all, John is thankful for the opportunity to continue making a positive impact in the Placer Valley community.
