Can you get custom samples? Short answer: yes.

But here’s what to know before you ask for one:

Custom samples cost more than stock samples and they take longer, because the factory is making something just for you

You can often negotiate the sample cost credited back when you place your bulk order.

My favorite move: order a stock sample first. Once you know the factory’s quality is there, then pay for custom.

That’s how you walk into bulk production already knowing what you’re getting and what it truly costs you. Even if you’ve paid for a sample before that came out wrong.

We work through exactly this inside The Wholesale Alternative. Comment WHOLESALE and I’ll send you the link.

What are you buying over and over again for your business?

Packing tape. Shipping labels. Boxes. Cleaning supplies. Post-its. Pens. Plastic bags etc.

Make a list of everything you rebuy every month, every 3 months, every 6 months, and every year. Then write down what you’re spending.

Now go look those same items up on Alibaba. (the prices you see listed aren’t real…. BUT you’ll be able to see what’s available)

That list if you want can turn into your first sourcing to do!

“$97 FOR A BOOK?!”

Okay. But let’s put $97 next to the decision you’re actually making.

If you’re about to spend $500, $1,000, $10,000 or $50,000+ buying products for your business, how much is it worth to actually understand what you’re doing BEFORE you place the order?

Sourcing isn’t just: Find product → pay factory → product magically appears at your door.

There are tariffs. Duties. Product classifications. Compliance requirements. Shipping terms. Import requirements. Costs you may not even know you should be asking about yet.

And finding out you misunderstood something after thousands of dollars of inventory is already moving is a hell of a lot more expensive than $97.

That’s why I wrote How Products Are Really Bought.

Not to convince everybody that they need to manufacture overseas but to help you understand how products are actually bought, where you should be buying at YOUR stage of business, and what you need to know before you start putting real money behind purchase orders.

If it saves you from one expensive mistake, you’ll probably never think about the $97 again.

Comment BOOK and I’ll send it to you!

One of the easiest ways to explain sizing to a factory is sometimes… to stop trying to explain it.

If you’re buying an existing product or white labeling, you’ll typically choose from the sizes the supplier already offers.

But if you’re developing your own product and there’s an existing item that fits exactly how you want yours to fit? SEND IT TO THE FACTORY.

They can literally take the sample apart, measure the individual pieces, look at the construction, and understand what you mean in a way that 47 messages and a bunch of measurements sometimes cannot communicate.

But that doesn’t mean every business should immediately leave wholesale and start manufacturing direct.

Faire and Alibaba serve different stages and different needs.

That’s exactly why I wrote How Products Are Really Bought to help you understand how products actually move through the supply chain and figure out which buying model makes sense for YOUR business right now.
