🦌Oh Deer 🦌

There’s a section in our annual tax packet to list any gambling winnings and losses. When I turned ours in this April my sweet CPA said one of her clients filled in the section with “Duh…it’s called FARMING!”

While I thought it was kind of cool that a random rogue yearling showed up in our neighbor’s back paddock I immediately knew it could be trouble….

Mr. Deer is quite content munching away on unlimited grain and alfalfa with the cows but he’s apparently determined to have a floral bouquet dessert each evening.

He’s eaten the blooms off of everything that would have bloomed for the next 6-8 weeks 😭😭😭

Unfortunately this means the stand will be closed until further notice while I figure out a deer-proof Fort Knox replica for my flower fields. And give what remains a chance to re-grow and bloom again.

Mother’s Day…~ le sigh~

For me the day is complicated. I had a horribly abusive & neglectful mother and although I absolutely love with all my heart the strong and amazing women who have stepped in over the years to fill that gap, I don’t know that there will ever not be a twang of resentment for the whole holiday.

For so many years now, as a flower farmer, I’ve felt a pressure to be happy and appreciative about the day, at least as far as social media is concerned. I mean the day is the freaking Super Bowl of flowers for florists & farmers. Every year it has hands down been the highest grossing sales day of the year. How could I possibly poo poo on the party?

But all that masking is exhausting to my soul on a level I’ve not yet tended to. So this year, as our economy continues to swirl down the proverbial sh***er while on fire (add a dumpster in there for good measure) and families can’t even afford basic food staples…I’m taking a pause.

I know so many of you have amazing mothers in your life that deserve to be showered with only the BEST and most BEAUTIFUL locally grown flowers though! So this week in my stories I’ll share other local farmers that are offering blooms for your Mother’s Day celebrations.

The sun is starting to peek through the clouds and the rain is done for the next few days it looks like! The flowers are a bit sporadic in spring but the tulips are tulip-ing and some of the fancy daffodils are poppin’ off.

The stand is stocked this weekend Sat & Sun 8am-dusk with a variety of bouquets from $15-25. Swing on by and bring home a little sunshine for your kitchen table.

✨Launching something new this week ✨
This won’t be surprising for close friends and family, but after over 20 years of doing this work for those that I love, I want to start making an impact with a wider community.

Death is sh*tty and scary and chaotic at best. Having a trusted guide (a Doula) that’s been through this before can help reduce anxiety, get paperwork in proper order and give your family the much needed breathing room to be fully present at the bedside.

I’ve worked in death care spaces since I was 17. From hospice volunteering to doing coroner autopsies to holding vigil and witnessing several last breaths, I’ve done a lot. And while each death is as unique as each life there are a lot of commonalities and boxes that can get checked to help make things easier.

🚨COOLER CLEAR OUT🚨

The rain has trashed my greens and other things have been nipped by frost but I tucked away just enough heirloom chrysanthemums to stock the stand Wednesday and Thursday for your family festivities. 🍁🦃🍁

Whether you’re hosting or just rolling up to your bffs house in your elastic waist pants, flowers are always a good look 😉

These $15 bunches will be out at the stand along with some gorgeous wreaths, place setting bouquets and mini wreaths if you want to go all out on your tablescapes.

🎨✨ I’m vending at Open Studios at the Tin Can!

I’m so excited to be part of the Open Studios at the Tin Can on Saturday, November 16 from 11 AM to 4 PM! I’ll be there along with to offer our wreaths, craft boxes and all the beautiful dried flowers we grew this year! There will be 30 amazing artists in total! It’s the perfect chance to shop local and find unique, handcrafted pieces – whether you’re treating yourself or getting a head start on your holiday gift list.
Alongside our gorgeous dried blooms, you’ll find everything from paintings to ceramics to textiles, plus delicious Tacos from a food truck during the Open-Air Art Market. It’s a one-day-only event you won’t want to miss!
