Today we recognize the true leader of Cast Iron Country. Bear is a Mini Bernedoodle who is always there: Out pickin iron, sitting against Dad while he packs shipments, listening to me grumble while scrubbing stubborn carbon, and such a regular at our UPS Store that the crew there put his picture shown here on their wall. You’re the man, Bear. 🐻

Drop Biscuits in a BSR 8, and Lentil Soup Night. I always start by cooking aromatics separately, in a Single Notch Lodge 5. An Indian lady taught me that several years ago in the dry beans aisle at a grocery store. Sauté garlic, onions, thyme sprigs and bay leaves in olive oil. Add mix to vegetable stock, then all the ingredients including turnips, celery, parsnips, etc. Cooked 6 hours and served with hot biscuits and a cold Coors.

We are so honored to take ownership of this amazing Griswold set from a nice couple in St. Pete FL. She received this set many years ago when a father in Ohio gifted all of his children with a Griswold set. That's what we call a great Dad! My first question as usual was, "Why do you want to give it up?" She now has a glass stove and did not want to risk damaging it. This set is mostly Large Block Logo in excellent condition with some high-value touches and includes the following:

9 Rare 778 Du-Chro Extra Deep Skillet
10 LBL with Heat Ring
9 Slant X Divider Handle Griddle

It was one of those very rare times when you don't even evaluate what you are acquiring. It was easy to see that this set was taken care of well for many years. It requires the same going forward.

All but the Extra Deep Skillet are headed for the lye bath now. I'll save that one for extra plating care at a later date. Our mission is at Cast Iron Country is to save Americana like this and keep it going as heirlooms into another century. What’s your main everyday user? For me it’s this Griswold #8 Slant EPU Skillet c. 1909-1929. Spins, some bottom pits, but old reliable. Here making my once-weekly Whole Foods salmon, along with string beans and avocado.
