Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School St. Pete

Dr. Sketchy's Anti-Art School St. Pete Dr. Sketchy's St. Pete Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is here to change all that. Started in 2005 by artist Molly Crabapple, the concept is simple. Pete!

When many artists think “life drawing,” they think of sterile rooms, bad lighting, and bored, silent, models with nary a hint of personality. Dr. Sketchy’s Anti-Art School is the little New York art event that became a movement. Artists draw glamorous burlesque dancers, compete in contests, and win wacky prizes. From its humble Brooklyn beginnings, Dr. Sketchy’s now has over 100 branches around th

e globe, including Los Angeles, London, Rome, Tokyo, and Melbourne. Now, Katie Mehas is bringing Dr. Sketchy’s to St. The monthly sessions will feature burlesque babes, roller derby girls, drag queens and fetish models, along with contests, prizes and alcohol galore. Since its inception in 2005, Dr. Sketchy’s has received coverage from the likes of The LA Times, The Washington Post, BBC Radio, NPR, The Village Voice, WNBC, Time Out London, and The New York Times. Regular sessions are held on the second Thursday of each month at the Sake Bomb, 548 Central Avenue, Saint Petersburg, FL 33701. Admission is $10 at the door. Keep an eye on this space for more information!

Good morning, Art Monkeys! We're sorry to report that we won't be having an event this month, due to some unforeseen personal circumstances. (Don't worry, everyone's fine, just a little - ok, a lot - overwhelmed right now.) We're sorry to disappoint! Keep an eye on our page, and we'll be sure to give you plenty of notice before the next evening of sketchiness.

Thanks to everyone who came out last night. We had a blast! Special thanks to the fabulous Judy Pop for posing for us, and to VLVT Salon for the last-minute hair rescue.

We're taking a break in February to let our Helper Monkeys enjoy a romantic Valentine's Day, but we will be back in March. Last night's photos (and December's) to come!

I know we have quite a few fans of Doctor Who AND of the lovely Vita DeVoid...how about a racy, fabulous Doctor Who burlesque-style musical spectacular written and run by Vita? Yeah, that's what I thought. Kickstart that thing, Art Monkeys!

A Burlesque-Styled play based on Doctor Who! Hilarious Comedy Sketches, Dance and Musical Numbers, Fangirls, and YOU - The Whovians!
