Feed the Machine!

Apparently, making sawdust isn't enough anymore. Now we have to feed the algorithm, too!

And just like our planer, that thing is ALWAYS hungry.

So we're asking for a little help keeping the machine running. Give us a LIKE, leave a COMMENT, SHARE with a friend, or FOLLOW Kenik Wood Works to see what we're making next.

Every little bit helps our small workshop reach more people.

Please don't make us plane more wood! 😂

Friday in the Workshop

From bowtie repairs to a finished magnetic knife holder!

A few weeks ago, we shared the bowtie joinery in this beautiful piece of walnut. Now we're showing how it all came together.

An oil finish brings out the walnut's natural grain, hidden magnets hold the knives securely, and a contrasting purpleheart base and side supports complete the design.

A little character, a little craftsmanship, and a practical purpose.

Drumroll, please… 🥁

We’re excited to share that Kenik Wood Works is now represented at Bluestem Missouri Crafts LLC in Columbia, Missouri!

Bluestem has welcomed a substantial collection of our work into the gallery, representing a wonderful cross-section of what we create. We’re delighted to have our work alongside that of so many talented Missouri artists and makers.

If you’re in the Columbia area, we hope you’ll stop in, explore the gallery, and see our work in person. Supporting galleries like Bluestem supports not only our small business, but a community of artists creating work right here in Missouri.

A big thank-you to Bluestem Missouri Crafts for welcoming us. We’re very pleased to be there.

A little something different from our shop.

A few years ago, our son joined us in making a collection of metal gaming keycaps. We recently pulled the remaining pieces from our inventory and decided it was time to find them some keyboards!

They're now available Pop of Color LLC Salon & Artisan Boutique in Ste. Genevieve at special clearance pricing.

They make a fun little gift or stocking stuffer for the gamer in your family — especially those teenagers who are otherwise impossible to shop for.

Designed to fit Row 1, MX-style mechanical keyboard switches.

Stop by Pop of Color and take a look while they last.

Friday in the Workshop.

We’re preparing some beautiful old walnut for a new group of river-pour charcuterie serving boards.

Before the epoxy comes the quiet work—removing the bark and cleaning the live edges. There’s something surprisingly satisfying about this part of the process: the sound of the bark peeling away, the curls coming off the draw knife, and the walnut slowly revealing the edge underneath.

Sometimes the simplest work in the shop is the most satisfying to watch.

A little drama for a smaller space.

The Cadence Wall Vase has a light, delicate profile, but the wood gives it plenty of presence. Dramatically spalted maple from our own property is paired with local walnut rails and a simple glass vase.

We’ve made several versions of this design, and the natural character of the maple makes each one distinctly different.

That color came from the tree.

One of the things that drew us to this river-recovered box elder was the remarkable salmon-colored flame running through the wood. Combined with the swirling grain and natural edges, there was enough character here to build an entire matching set — a coffee table and two end tables.

We filled the natural openings with clear epoxy over a black backer, creating depth and contrast without competing with the wood itself.

Handcrafted in our Ste. Genevieve workshop and available as a three-piece set. If you’re nearby, contact us to arrange a time to see the set in person at our studio.

Which catches your eye first — the salmon flame, the grain, or the epoxy rivers?

How much difference can a few small details make?

This handcrafted padauk and maple keepsake box is all about contrast—from the two distinct tones of padauk against the light maple to the corner splines that make the joinery part of the design. A simple lift-off lid keeps the form clean and lets the wood do the talking.
