When you first looked at the chair in the picture did you wonder why it was lying upside down? How does it make you feel? Do you have the urge to stand it upright?

I think we will agree that the chair in this picture is not placed correctly. Lying like it is in the photo not only looks wrong but makes us feel uneasy and off balance too. It stirs up uncomfortable emotions. Of course, this is an exaggerated example but it powerfully demonstrates how incorrect placement of furnishings in a space can impact on how the space looks and makes us feel. 

It isn’t the furnishings that make a room beautiful, it’s how they are put together. The power of placement cannot be overstated and there are so many factors involved in getting it right. Having a good eye and some intuition may get you part of the way but investing in my expertise will ensure the perfect placement of everything in your space (whether what you have is old or new). Not only will it look beautiful but you will love how your space makes you feel.

Color is the most important element and the key to any beautiful design. However, choosing the right colors for your space is complicated and can be the most challenging part of decorating.

The first step to building your room design is deciding on your color theme. To help you do this, choose one item that you must have in your space, something you really love. This could be a piece of art, a fabric, or maybe a pillow. The colors in your chosen item will be your ”jumping off point” for building out the rest of your room design and color palette.

Sometimes it’s too expensive or inconvenient to entirely remodel a room, but it is possible to bring out the best in a space and give it an updated look with a skilled use of color.

I was able to transform this tired and outdated bathroom with a beautiful combination of Sherwin Williams Emerald paints. I chose SW Waterloo for the walls, SW Urban Bronze for the cabinetry, and SW Dover White for the trim, doors and ceiling!

A wall mirror can make a beautiful, decorative addition to a room, helping to maximise the light and making the room feel more spacious. However, these benefits can be overshadowed by poor placement. 

When placing a mirror on the wall take a few moments to consider what you will see in it from every viewpoint. Make sure it isn’t reflecting an unattractive part of the room or other area in your house that you would not enjoy looking at for any amount of time. 

Pay attention particularly to what you will see from every seat position in the room. In general, when sitting you will see mostly the ceiling in the reflection but by tipping the top of the mirror forward a little and angling it down slightly you will see the reflection of your beautiful room instead.

What a fun project this was! 

This online One Day Decorating project was for a beautiful family of 5 (mom, dad with 3 teen kids) who wanted a warm and colorful family space.Incorporating what they already had (the sofa, rattan stool and TV) their family room was quickly transformed.

One Day Decorating is a service where I use some of what you already have, adding in a bit of shopping for what is needed to complete your space. I work my magic using my expertise, creativity and talent in design, color and decorating to transform your space in a quick turnaround time. 

My One Day Decorating is available in-home or online (modified service).

Hi there! My name is Angela Crowne, and I am the founder, owner and designer of Interiors To Move You LLC, a professional, boutique redesign, color and home staging consultancy based in Willow Glen, San Jose, CA.

In 2010, my husband was asked to take a position with his employer in California. It was an opportunity we could not resist, so, with our two children and two cats, we packed up our belongings, waved goodbye to our home in England, UK, and headed to the states to start the next chapter of our lives.

I have moved 11 times in my life, so am no stranger to what setting up a new home takes. Moving across the pond was an adventure for my family, but it also meant yet another house move. After moving home so many times, I understand very well the challenges homeowners face when trying to make their new place feel like home, or trying to make their old house as appealing as possible to potential buyers.

After completing my last whole home redesign/remodel in 2018, I realized that I was not ready to stop designing even though there was nothing left to do in that house. I wanted to help others create beautiful homes too and was ready to pursue my life-long passion full-time. Being a hobbyist wasn't going to cut it. I already had over 25 years of experience in redesign, but I wanted to offer my clients truly professional design services. I studied for formal certifications in redesign, color and home staging, undertook training with some of the top and most intensive and extensive professional redesign, color and staging courses in the USA. I continue to further my design education, striving to always advance myself both personally and professionally to better serve my clients.
