Why do we spend so much time discussing things like outlet placement, cabinet details, and tile layouts?

Because the smallest decisions often have the biggest impact on how a space looks, functions, and feels.

While these details may seem insignificant on their own, together they create a home that feels thoughtful, intentional, and well executed.

It's the part of the process most people never see, but it's often what separates a good project from a great one.

The goal was never just a new kitchen.

It was creating a space that felt more connected to the way this family lives. Goal #1? fit all 4 family members at the island.

A space for gathering, everyday routines, weekend mornings, and all of the moments in between.

The best projects are rarely about one finish or one design feature. They're about creating a home that functions better, feels better, and supports the people living in it.

That's always the bigger picture.

What I've learned after designing A LOT of spaces...

Every family lives differently.

What works beautifully for one homeowner may not work at all for another, which is why the best design solutions are never one-size-fits-all.

I've learned that the most successful homes aren't necessarily the biggest, the most expensive, or the most perfectly styled. They're the homes that truly support the people living in them.

In this particular project, one of my favorite details isn't something we designed at all. The photo behind me is a portrait of the homeowner's late father, from whom she inherited the home.

Sometimes the most meaningful pieces in a home aren't the ones that perfectly match, or are picked from a magazine. They're the ones that tell a story.

The homes that feel the most special are often the ones that reflect the people who live there, their memories, and the lives they've built within those walls.

At the end of the day, great design isn't about creating a perfect space. It's about creating the right space for the people who call it home 🤍

When people think of a custom kitchen, they often think of luxury finishes or expensive appliances.

While those things can certainly elevate a space, what truly makes a kitchen feel custom is the thought that goes into it.

The layout, storage solutions, lighting, material selections, and countless small details all work together to create a kitchen that feels both beautiful and functional.

The goal isn't just a kitchen that looks good, it's one that feels like it was designed specifically for the people who live there 🤍

One of the most important parts of a project happens where design and construction meet.

It’s the constant coordination between layout, materials, measurements, and ex*****on that allows everything to come together seamlessly in the end.

A lot of these decisions happen behind the scenes — reviewing details, adjusting as needed, and making sure every element aligns before moving forward.

These moments may not always make it into the final photos, but they’re a huge part of what makes the finished result feel thoughtful, cohesive, and well executed.

One of my favorite parts of this job is seeing a space finally come to life after months of planning, decisions, problem-solving, and construction.

What starts as an idea on paper eventually becomes a space where real life happens; gathering with family, slow mornings, busy weeknights, and everything in between.

Projects like this are always a reminder that good design is about so much more than how a space looks. It’s about creating a home that feels thoughtful, functional, and truly lived in.

One thing that can completely shape the experience of a remodel is having a team that works well together.

The design-build process is at its best when everyone involved. From designers to contractors to subcontractors is aligned and working toward the same goal.

Good communication, collaboration, and problem-solving behind the scenes make a huge difference in how smoothly a project comes together. There’s far less finger-pointing and a much stronger sense of teamwork throughout the process.
