I worked on this major remodel project in Del Mar a few years back. It included a new kitchen and primary bath room along with new furnishings throughout. The home was recently sold and the new owner contacted me for a new project, a bath addition and new patio design. I’m excited to work on this and revisit my former project!

Design themes ~ When starting a project we discuss the clients style. This helps us narrow down all the options and keeps us on track when making selections and designing the home. On this project we identified the style and when making every selection in the home we kept the theme in mind. Edit your design, if you like five styles this will be hard to work with and may look cluttered ...edit it down to two styles. You can mix styles but it can be tricky and this is when you might want to consult a professional, someone to help you pull it all together. When I flip through the top shelter magazine and I see a current trend, homes that look like a collage of someone’s life or a collection from their travels. This client preferred a more streamlined design with balance & cohesiveness.

This home has been featured in Modern Luxury Magazine.
On this San Diego kitchen remodel we designed a very large island they are an important part of the kitchen this one is 9’x 6’. See planning tips below ⬇️. I made sure to design access to the space under the island so there was no waisted space, it can be accessed with touch latch doors. Now people are spending even more time in the kitchen and using the island as a multi purpose surface to do work, homework, eat and entertained. It is the heart of the home. We are using one large fixture or 2 to 3 large pendent lights over the island. Not a row of small pendents anymore, that’s out. 😁

When remodeling your kitchen
1. Hire a contractor and designer.
2. Approve design drawings.
3. Select and order appliances & sink.
4. Select finish & order cabinets.
5. Order light fixtures.
6. Select flooring
7. Select counter top and backsplash tile.

On this kitchen renovation we designed new custom cabinets.
You have a few options for cabinets depending on your budget.
1. New cabinets, they are the best they cost the most and you can completely change your cabinets and layout.
2. Reface your existing cabinets, consists of adding new doors in a color or stain and refinish the boxes, this saves a lot & there is no demo and you need to keep your current layout.
3. Refinish or paint, this cost the least. You can have fun and pick a new trending color like charcoal, black or aqua or mix some stained and colored cabinets, this is the current rage! then change it in a few years

On this kitchen project we used drawers under the cooktop, they work great for pots and pan storage. For the back splash we used a glass tile in a chevron pattern, this pattern is still going strong for tile and flooring, this trend is here to stay. I really enjoyed working with this couple, the wife cared the most about the kitchen and the husbands cared about the outdoor space. Occasionally I work with a couple that disagrees on design selections, so we divide up the house and one has final say on some rooms and the other on the rest, it works out well and I’m there to make sure it turns out amazing.
