Featured work from The Natural World show. This Tableaux series continues my exploration of weathered, tactile ceramic surfaces. I created these works during a period of deep grief and loss, when I needed the physicality of clay more than ever. The act of making became a way of moving through that heaviness—a quiet, steady form of healing. These pieces are darker and more personal, shaped by moments when the subconscious took the lead and the material held what I could not yet articulate.

Featured work from The Natural World show. Created expressly for this show, this piece carries personal significance as a tribute to my late husband. It was designed to support a large arrangement of exotic flowers during the exhibition. The form is intentionally bold and substantial, its block‑like mass contrasted by a surface that flows with movement and gesture.

Featured work from The Natural World show. This work marks a shift toward bolder scale and sculptural presence.I set out to create ceramic stools suited for both interior and exterior spaces. Their surfaces are treated with found clay materials, including dirt collected while traveling, and finished with glazes I formulated myself. The intention is a surface that feels weathered, tactile, and distinctly individual.

Featured work from The Natural World show. This piece explores my ongoing interest in illuminating ceramic forms from within. It is part of a series of lighted sculptures. Here, the internal glow evokes fireflies gathered to offer their light at night.

Featured piece from The Natural World show. This piece is part of an ongoing study on balance expressed through geometric structures. The act of building while maintaining equilibrium mirrors the way we navigate life—constantly adjusting, supporting, and recalibrating so nothing falls away. At times, it feels as though we’re all playing an endless, careful game of Jenga.

Featured piece from The Natural World show titled North Star. This piece was inspired from our lifelong fascination with space and stars. Humanity has long sought guidance in the heavens, reading the sky for orientation, knowledge, and prophecy. Polaris, the North Star, has served as a constant marker of due north, leading countless travelers across time.

Artist reception is May 16, 6-9pm.

I finally made it to the Boundless exhibit at the on Friday before it wraps up at the end of the month. Beautiful show from their permanent collection, displaying work from Laura Anderson, Harrison McIntosh, the Natzlers, the Heinos, Beatrice Woods, Peter Voulkos, and others who defined the ceramics field in Southern California in the mid-twentieth century. I do like how the curators paid attention to the colors and textures and paired the work with beautiful photographs of the region. Thank you for sharing.

Finishing texture addition on a new
I used crushed porcelain, red dirt from Valley Center in California, and a light tan dirt from my mom’s house in France. It is my way of anchoring the piece with places I visited. This will slow dry for a couple weeks before the first firing. To see a finished stool in person , check out the show The Natural World at until June 12.

I’m excited to share that The Natural World opens May 8. I hope you’ll stop by and see the work we’ve curated. Reception is May 16, 6-9pm

I’m delighted to share that I am co‑curating a new exhibition, The Natural World, at The Studio Door in Hillcrest. The show runs from May 8 to June 12 and brings together painters, ceramic and glass artists whose work reflects our deep, tactile connection to nature.
