At 19, our founder, Paul Basile, moved to San Diego with a curiosity for making things by hand and a deep appreciation for craftsmanship shaped by his blue-collar Detroit upbringing.

What began with metalwork and furniture design slowly evolved into something bigger. Once those pieces found a home inside spaces, a new perspective emerged… one rooted in how environments make people feel, connect, and gather. To this day, Paul approaches architecture from the inside out, drawn to the relationship between interiors, structure, and the natural world surrounding them.

Today, with design and fabrication operating under one roof, that same spirit of curiosity continues to drive every project, blending craftsmanship, mechanical innovation, and storytelling into spaces built to last.

A closer look at the back bar at Born & Raised.

Designed and fabricated in-house, this piece is anchored by solid brass, formed from substantial blocks and held together almost entirely by tension, with a single screw completing the structure.

It’s a reminder that when the opportunity is there, the details are worth it. They’re what people feel, even if they can’t immediately name it.

Castle Ferreira… a 15,000 sq ft Gothic Revival residence in Mission Hills. 🏰

Our role focused on the interiors, building out depth through walnut millwork, stone, brass, and leather across a series of layered, moody spaces.

Hidden passageways, concealed bars, and a ballroom that converts into a nightclub define the experience of the home. Medieval influence meets contemporary fabrication, with every surface and detail resolved through material clarity and craft.

Happy birthday to our Founder & Principal, Paul Basile! 🎉

Today, we celebrate your unwavering passion for design, constant creativity, and relentless drive that continues to shape not only the work we do, but the way we think about it.

Working alongside a true visionary is something we don’t take for granted. Your perspective is a constant source of inspiration, and we’re deeply grateful to be part of the world you’re building!

Every designer has that one person (or a few) who made them see the world differently. We asked a few people on the Basile + Wilson team who theirs are.

Who’s your design icon?

Custom built. Individually controlled. Fully programmed.

We were two years into mechatronics when we made the dancing windows for .

That project quietly became the foundation for what is now a full mechatronics lab, an integral part of how BASILE approaches every interactive design challenge.

We’re proud of where that curiosity has taken us!

Seeing this story come to life never really gets old.

At Born & Raised, the wooden blooms in the dining room didn’t start as a design feature. They started as a problem.

Adding the second level meant introducing structural supports right into the middle of the space. Not ideal. So we had to figure out how to deal with it, and hopefully make it better.

What came out of that process were the blooms. Something that could conceal what needed to be hidden, while also shifting how the room feels. With the ceiling being low, the curves help pull your eye outward instead of up.

This is a peek at how that idea actually came together during construction, leading up to the final install… still one of our favorite problem solves to date.

A little mid-week rendering to reality magic. 👏

From early concepts to built form, Morning Glory came to life through layers of intention, detail, and collaboration. Watching a vision move from screen to space never gets old.

This is why we do what we do!

Meet Edgar Falcon, our mechatronics designer and the brains behind bringing Roseacre’s underground wine cellars to life. 👏

Disguised as manhole covers, each cellar rises vertically from the ground through a motorized screw jack system operating on a single axis.

Precision-engineered to hold 28 bottles, the mechanism is as considered as the experience itself.

Can’t wait to share the final result within the space!

At (formerly Broadstone Makers Quarter), our design draws from the evolution of technology, from the grit of the industrial age to the innovation of today.

From the moment you step onto the property, you’re met with monuments of progress: a working vintage printing press, an interactive movement-tracking flip-dot display, and materials that feel grounded and enduring.

Steel and concrete form the backbone of the space, creating an environment where collaboration feels natural and creativity feels possible.

This isn’t just residential. It’s a place built for builders, thinkers, and entrepreneurs.
