It’s so fulfilling to have my works hang in the restaurant I’ve worked at since high school. Since they’ve been on display, I’ve had both regulars and customers I don’t know compliment the work, not realizing I was the artist. Once they do know, they’re always so excited to be talking to the artist who made the paintings.

It honestly helps serve as a reminder as I work as a restaurant manager, that the arts are the most important for me. I work long shifts mostly through the long weekend and making time for art is never easy. There was a mentor from school who came to speak in my classes, and I remember he was asked how he balanced making art and his work life to make a living. His answer has stuck with me, and it’s that you just have to do it, you have to make time. Making a living is necessary and often takes precedence tied to a work schedule. So, in order to maintain an artistic practice, you have to find time elsewhere. Whether it’s the early hours of the day or late at night, you have to make creation equally essential or it will fall behind.

I consider myself lucky to have to make time for such activities, and hope one day to dedicate my time fully to its practice. The answer is extremely. There is a moment everyday where I pause and realize how lucky I am to do what I do. I am so grateful to have realized early on what makes me happy. Between choosing to go to college for art, and stating my business in high school, I have always chosen art in blind faith that it will always be apart of my life. I will continue to live by this in hopes, that one day, I can make a living and dedicate 100% of my time to creation.

I am so thankful for everyone who has supported me in getting to this point so far. I can’t wait to look back one day and see how far I’ve come.
