Who says macrame has to be traditional? 🦋

One of my favorite things about working with macrame is exploring just how versatile it can be.

My Abstract Butterfly tapestry combines bold colors, geometric shapes and a little artistic freedom to create something beyond traditional macrame decor.

Sometimes it's fun to step outside the expected and see where the cords take you!

What do you think? Are you a fan of colorful macrame, or do you prefer the natural look?

Believe it or not, I am self-taught.

I started with simple projects while I learned the knots, practiced tension, made mistakes and figured out what worked.

Now, 7+ years later, my macrame has grown into a wide body of work, including the sculptural pieces that have become some of my favorites to create.

And now I’m taking what I’ve learned along the way and turning it into something new: classes, patterns and tutorials designed to help other makers learn not just how to tie the knots, but how to understand what they’re doing and create with confidence.

It’s kind of amazing to look back at where I started and see where a few simple knots have taken me.

Remember those messy scribbles from Work in Progress Wednesday?

Well, they're becoming a real macrame sampler! And they're also teaching me a thing or two. 😂

My first prototype is running short on cord, which means I'll be taking it apart and starting again with some adjustments.

That's the reality of designing something from scratch. Not everything works perfectly the first time, even when you've been doing it for years.

And that's exactly why I want to teach more than just how to tie knots in my upcoming Macrame Fundamentals class.
Mistakes are part of making. Learning how to recognize and correct them is how we grow as makers.

Stay tuned for version 2!

Before the fun part comes the tedious part. 😅

Three Petra Pods means measuring and cutting 78 cords before I can tie a single knot.

Every craft has that one part you’d happily skip. For me, this is it!

What’s the least favorite part of your creative process?

Every design has to start somewhere! 😂

And sometimes that somewhere is a messy piece of paper covered in scribbles, crossed-out ideas, and arrows pointing every which way.

It may look like chaos, but to me, it's a design taking its very first breaths.

Eventually, all those scribbles will become a finished macrame sampler, complete with a pattern that someone else can actually follow!

🌿 Happy WIP Wednesday!

A girl can dream, can't she? 😂

As we get ready for our future full-time RV adventures, I've been thinking about what I'll miss most about having a house.

My macrame studio is definitely near the top of that list!

Now, if only money were no object... 🤔

What would your dream space look like?

Seven years later, and Clara is still a favorite. 💚

I think part of her staying power is her simplicity. She has just enough detail to be interesting, but she doesn't overpower the plant or the space around her.

And with so many colors to choose from, she can complement just about any decorating style.

Apparently, she never goes out of style!
And this year? She may just take the best-seller title again. 😊

Do you have a Clara hanging in your home?

Pod plant hangers are like potato chips. You can’t have just one. 😁

One color leads to another… then another… and somehow you end up with a whole little pod family.

Which color would you pick first?
