Loving how the deep burgundy foliage of Red Spike amaranthus dance around in the breeze, and how they get pink when the sunlight shines through them.
These Red Spikes were sown late to provide autumn color, so they just starting to produce flower spikes.

A lovely light yellow nasturtium from the Tall Single Mix, blooming and full of buds. Nasturtiums ramping up in late summer/fall, when nighttime temperatures begin to drop and days are getting shorter.
Nasturtium flowers are edible, with a zesty peppery flavor. Fresh new nasturtium seeds are edible, too, and are delicious pickled.

A midweek mid-August look at what is happening in one of our Santa Rosa, CA test gardens.

Roma tomatoes are ready for some serious sauce and salsa-making projects. Lemon cucumbers are bountiful, too.

Tango cosmos still showy and also creating its spiky sperical seed structures.
Flashback calendulas beginning to bloom again after a break caused by midsummer heat waves.
Zinnias still going strong: this is Profusion Red Yellow Bicolor.
Maverick Appleblossom geranium up close, happy even with more shade than what is ideal.
Some recently planted cuphea and cosmos seedlings to brighten the long fall season that we typically have here.
Generous amounts of Persian Jewels Love-in-the-Mist seedlings are popping up on their own.
