WHAT DOES SUSTAINABLE HOME DESIGN MEAN?

According to EPA statistics, over nine tons of furniture and home furnishings ended up in landfills in 2015. In a perfect world, all consumer goods would be both sustainable A N D affordable. Unfortunately, thatā€™s not the case. Consumers are having to decide if itā€™s actually worth it to overextend themselves financially for the sake of being green?

Eugene Kim, who is the founder of home furnishing brand Dims says there are issues to consider. ā€œMost furniture is made with the cheapest possible finishes and adhesives, which (not surprisingly) means they emit hazardous fumes and pollutants,ā€ he says.

how do you decide?
I believe the bigger the piece, the more sustainable it should be. With items you can change out easily being at the bottom of the list. Got an old couch thatā€™s lost itā€™s stuffing or doesnā€™t match your current color pallet? Look into getting it re-stuffed and re-covered! Or you can DIY.
