Wow.. from the bottom of my heart, thank you everyone for all of the support!

Last year the week of Mother’s Day we sold 70+ bouquets. This year we sold 70 bouquets today alone (and counting - we still have a few more left!). I so appreciate all the love and support for this small, mom-owned business.

Here are some throwback photos taken by the amazing on Mother’s Day two years ago when this business was just getting started. It has grown so much in that time, and so have my babies 🥰.

Happy Mother’s Day 💜💜

I was showing my oldest the historical street view photos of our house and it’s so fun to look back and be reminded of all the work we’ve done over the last 4 years!

I’m so happy we got rid of all that grass and tranformed the space into a thriving veggie garden/flower farm! 🤗

We have flowers this weekend! Thursday-Sunday, 8am-8pm at our self-serve flower stand in View Ridge, NE Seattle. Bouquets are $20/$30, including tax. We accept cash, Venmo, and Zelle.

This will be the last weekend for straight tulip bunches. We’ll be doing all mixed bouquets for Mother’s Day next week. 💐

I’m curious - which color palette is your favorite? 🤔

Not going to lie, I have been VERY intimidated to dig and divide my dahlias. It’s so easy just leaving them in the ground year after year here in the PNW. 😅

But I am rearranging some beds and needed to dig them up so I figured it was a good time to give dividing a try.

It was way easier than I expected and actually was pretty fun! It was sort of like a puzzle/game hunting for the eyes and trying to see how many viable tubers I could make out of each clump.

I’m still not planning on ever getting into dahlia tuber sales (mad respect to the people who do it - it’s so much work!) but I’m happy knowing I can divide a clump of dahlia tubers when needed. 💪

P.S. Sanitize your clippers between clumps to reduce the spread of disease!

Despite losing half my bearded irises to a car driving over my front garden, I still have dozens that are about to burst into bloom. 🤗

I’ve already started putting them in bouquets so here are some tips to best enjoy them in my bouquets, or harvested from your own garden.

1. Cut them when the tips have colored up, before they’ve opened.
2. Each stem has several buds that will open over the next week (So don’t be dismayed if none of yours are open yet).
3. Each bloom lasts 2-3 days before dying inelegantly.
4. Pick/cut off spent blooms to enjoy the new ones opening.

I really want to add more unique varieties of bearded irises to my garden. There’s a lot more out there than the common purple ones!

I tried to get some on clearance in December but the wholesaler (ADR) said they were in too rough a shape to sell them to me. Lesson learned: don’t wait for the clearance, just buy them at regular price 🙈.

Who is a fan of bearded irises?

There is an old adage that says you can plant your dahlia tubers when the lilacs bloom. This is because if the lilacs are blooming it means the soil/air temps are typically warm enough for your dahlia tubers to get going.

The lilacs are blooming in Seattle and the weather looks great for planting! My dahlias that overwintered in the ground are already sprouting and thriving.

Unfortunately I won’t be planting more dahlias in the ground quite yet because we have construction workers stomping all around 🫠 but hopefully I’ll be able to do it soon!

Don’t slack on deadheading your bulb-grown flowers!

Deadheading prevents the plant from wasting energy producing seeds (daffodils grown from seed take YEARS to bloom) and instead that energy is redirected into the bulb so you get great blooms next year. 🙌

I dug some of my dahlia tubers after 3 years in the ground. One tuber turned into dozens of tubers!

No wonder things were so crowded here last year. 😆 I’ll probably try to dig and divide every 2 years going forward.

It was pretty easy to do. I dug a wide circle around the clump and they came right up. I knew there would be tons so I wasn’t so concerned with being gentle or having any break off.

Since my dahlia patch was run over by a car in February, I only had a few left of my OG dahlias that I planted 3 years ago but if anyone local is interested in Ferncliff Illusion, Bed Head, or Just Peachy, lmk because I have tons to share. 🤗
