Day 16

Day 16!!! I can't stop thinking about how back in the day when I ignored every other responsibility and painted all night, this would have taken at least half the time. BUT, we are FINISHED!!! 🎉 🖌

Technically, I still have a protective layer to add on once everything is 100% dry, but... 💁🏿‍♀️

If you've been here since Day 1, thank you for keeping up with my progress! I genuinely appreciate your interest in my art. 🎨 If you haven't, you're still welcome to look back at the previous days posts and see how the painting evolved in steps from a blank canvas to this. Things looked a bit questionable at times, but that's the nature of the business.

Day 15

I finished up the detailing on the watch and bracelet, then added in the wood grain for the table... So many tiny paintbrush strokes!!!

The last step is to go back in and add back/soften the shadows on the flags, then tweak any other tiny details I discover.

Side note: I've been looking for a regular 9-5. Would it be appropriate to send a picture of this when they ask how well I pay attention to detail? 🤔😅

Day 14

This painting is taking me forever, huh? I didn't get very far at all today. I spent about 3 or 4 hours working on the hands while running back and forth to the kitchen, and then ultimately had to stop and attend a meeting.

We're almost done though!

Day 11 & 12

I skipped posting what I did on day 11 because I didn't think just adding the gray background was much progress to show. But on day 12, I started on the face!

Now, I am not the best at painting humans. I may repaint the same patch of skin 10 times (slight exaggeration) before I'm mildly satisfied. I'm still never completely happy because of the perfectionist in me wanting it to look like an exact replica of the photograph.

However, I'm always amazed at the progress of things looking like questionable blobs of paint to actually resembling what they should. So, I wanted to share a few extra pictures on this to show exactly what I mean:

Day 10

The small things are what require the most time and attention to detail. I spent hours on the awards for this uniform! The source image was also too blurry, so I had to find other images to reference.

Then, I painted the pocket last while tired only to step back and realize it's slightly crooked. 😅 The perfectionist in me requires that I completely redo it!

Day 6

I didn't get to paint for too long today because the power was out for most of the morning. However, I still managed to repaint the blue of the Navy flag, finish the small details, paint the gold fringes, and do the background color for the desk. 😮‍💨

I think it's all starting to come together quite nicely!
