Spent my evening repairing these 2 lamps. One got knocked off the table by her cat & the other was being transported between 2 residences.
Both are production made not hand made.
#1 will call cat lamp; hit the floor so hard it completely pushed in the vase cap and broke away from the harp. It had about 30 broken pieces. First the lamp was placed on its vase cap & i use a dowel & hammer to reshape the vase cap. Then i fitted it to a form and let it sit for a few days to reshape it; when i say this it was closer to an oval than round. The pieces that were broken (approx. 8)were replaced and the ones that just had cracks were coated front and back with resin. The harp was replaced.
#2 will call the beauty because it was beautiful but very deceiving; I recieved it with 3 pieces that had fallen out that’s it. Was told they also would like it wired around the bottom. Well the constant moving from winter home to summer home there is bound to be a mishap; especially with a production lamp. When looking at the shape of it almost the entire lamp from the bottom edge to the curve was all loose. So of course just trying to put the 3 pieces back in became a chore which also became 4 then 5. No part of that bottom wanted to stay together. Flipped it over and resined from the curve to the lower edge checking each section as I went. Finally came to the part with the missing pieces & realized the one next to it was still coming apart so shored up the loose pieces then resined & put the other pieces in. Ok so done right? Oh no!!! Thats when i noticed something weird… double vase caps!!! Have never seen this. One inside one outside & outside one is loose. Onward…& done
