Moonlit Summer 🌙❤️

Our boy Summer, perched beneath the moon like he owns the night sky.

Clouds rolling past, stars overhead, moonlight catching the edges of everything… and Sums keeping watch from above.

Some moments are just too beautiful not to stop and notice.

What a week!
It has been such a crazy week here on the homestead that I have hardly had a chance to post.

Some weeks are full of little moments.

Other weeks come in like wildfire, thunder, sweat, prayer, and deep gratitude.

This was one of those weeks.
There were things we were not expecting.
There were moments that required immediate action.
There were moments that reminded us how fragile life can be — and how faithful Yah truly is.

We are tired, but thankful.
Stretched, but strengthened.
Still processing, but very aware that His hand has been upon us.

Sometimes stewardship looks like planting, watering, feeding, harvesting, and tending.

And sometimes stewardship looks like standing in the gap when danger comes near.

All glory belongs to Yah.

“יהוה is my strength and my shield;
My heart has trusted in Him, and I have been helped.”
— Psalm 28:7

🐐 Second Working Day — Animal Day

This spring blessed us with four little does, and they are growing so fast.

Today they were enjoying one of the goats’ favorite treats around here — elm leaves. 🌿 There is something so sweet about watching young animals learn the rhythms of the homestead… what tastes good, where to browse, who is bold, who is cautious, and who thinks every branch was clearly placed there just for them.

Goats have such funny little personalities. One minute they are graceful and gentle, and the next minute they are climbing, nibbling, pushing, and acting like tiny queens of the ranch.

These little girls are a reminder that growth happens quietly right in front of us. A few months ago they were brand new and wobbly. Now they are browsing leaves like seasoned little homestead helpers.

Life around the ranch is full of these simple moments, and honestly, they are some of my favorites. 🐐🌿

🕯️ Preparation Day — Gathering & Reset

Here we are once again… Preparation Day.

This week has flown by.

At the beginning of the week, I always seem to have such big ideas of what I want to accomplish. A list in my mind. Projects I hope to finish. Things I want to clean, plant, fix, organize, bake, preserve, tend, or finally get caught up on.

And then Preparation Day arrives… and I realize I did not get nearly as much done as I had hoped.

There is something humbling about that.

Especially when I think of the Father, who created the heavens and the earth in six days — setting everything in order with perfect wisdom, purpose, and completion.

And here I am, trying to get the water troughs filled, the animals fed, the eggs gathered, the garden checked, the house reset, and my heart quieted before Shabbat.

But maybe that is part of the lesson.

Preparation Day is not only about finishing everything.

It is about recognizing what can be set in order, what must be entrusted to Yah, and what can wait.

The animals need care.
The garden needs water.
The home needs tending.
But my heart also needs to slow down.

So today, I gather what I can.
I reset what I can.
I prepare what I can.

And then I receive the reminder that rest is not a reward for getting everything done perfectly.

It is a gift from the One who already did.

Shabbat is coming. 🕯️🌿

🚜 Fifth Working Day — Real Homestead Talk

Cherry harvest always begins with excitement.

The first few handfuls feel almost magical… bright fruit, overflowing branches, and the satisfying sound of cherries dropping into the bucket one by one. Watching that bucket slowly fill feels rewarding in a way that is hard to explain unless you’ve harvested your own food before.

But somewhere around the middle of the harvest, reality settles in.

Your arms get tired.
Your feet ache.
The ladder starts feeling a little less stable.
The sun gets hotter.
You begin calculating how many more branches are left and wondering if your shoulders can handle it.

And suddenly harvest becomes less of a picturesque moment and more of a choice to keep going anyway.

This is one of the things I think gets romanticized online about homestead life. The beautiful basket photos are real… but so are the sore muscles, scratches, heat, exhaustion, and the constant awareness that weather, birds, or timing can change everything quickly.

Still… there is something deeply satisfying about gathering food with your own hands.

Even in the exhaustion, there is gratitude.

✨ Sabbath — Rest & Gratitude

There is a quiet peace over the homestead today.

The work has slowed.
The house is still.
Even the animals seem to know it is a day for rest.

Today I am grateful for simple things:
✨ full water troughs
✨ animals settled
✨ food prepared
✨ a quiet place to breathe
✨ and the gentle reminder that rest is a gift

“Return to your rest, O my being, for יהוה has treated you well.”
— Psalm 116:7

🕯️ Preparation Day — Gathering & Reset

There is something deeply peaceful about walking the homestead on Preparation Day.

Not rushing.
Not trying to begin something new.

Just gathering what needs gathered, finishing what needs finished, and setting the week down gently.

The animals are checked.
The plants are watered.
The little loose ends are noticed.

The tools, buckets, gates, eggs, feed, and garden beds all seem to ask the same quiet question:

Can we rest now?

And that is the beauty of Preparation Day.

It teaches us that rest does not usually happen by accident.
It is prepared for.
It is guarded.
It is made room for.

Before Sabbath, we slow the homestead down as much as we can — not because the work is finished forever, but because the Father gave us a rhythm that reminds us we are not held together by our own labor.

Six days we tend.
Six days we gather.
Six days we steward what has been entrusted to us.

And then we stop.
The gates are closed.
The waters are full.
The garden has been tended.
The animals are settled.
And our hearts are invited to settle too.

“Six days work is done, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of rest, a set-apart gathering.”
— Leviticus 23:3

Real Homestead Talk — Fifth Working Day

People see the flowers, the garden beds, the animals, the fresh eggs, and the fruit beginning to ripen.

And yes — it is beautiful.

But what they don’t always see is the daily tending behind it.

The troughs filled before rest.
The feed bags hauled.
The transplants protected from curious dogs and errant roosters.
The cherries watched closely before the birds get them first.
The garden watered again because the wind dried everything out.
The small repairs, the constant checking, the learning as we go.

Homesteading has plenty of peaceful moments, but it is not a life of ease. It is a life of stewardship.

You learn quickly that living things do not thrive just because you love them. They thrive because love becomes action — watering, feeding, guarding, pruning, mending, and beginning again.

And honestly, that is one of the greatest lessons this life keeps teaching me.

Beauty is tended.

Stewardship is daily.

And the good fruit usually comes after a lot of unseen work.

🍒🌸 Fourth Working Day — Beauty & Stillness

The cherries are finally beginning to blush here on the mountain.
After weeks of blossoms dancing in the wind, the orchard is quietly entering another season of abundance.

Little by little, the trees change their garments.
What was once blossom is becoming fruit.
Quietly. Slowly. Faithfully.

There’s something deeply healing about witnessing fruit ripen slowly.
Modern life trains people to rush everything — but creation does not hurry.
The trees do not strain.
The flowers do not compete.
And still… in their season, they bear fruit.

Sometimes I think people are starving for this kind of stillness —
for reminders that growth does not have to be forced to be fruitful.

“To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven.”
— Ecclesiastes 3:1

“He hath made every thing beautiful in his time…”
— Ecclesiastes 3:11

And Yahusha said:

“I am the vine, ye are the branches… he that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit.”
— John 15:5

Beauty is often quiet.
A breeze through the orchard.
Birdsong before sunrise.
Cherry branches heavy with the promise of harvest.

Perhaps this is why stillness feels so foreign now.
People were not created to live disconnected from the rhythms of creation.

Sometimes the most spiritual thing we can do is simply slow down long enough to notice what Yah is already doing.

🌾 Third Working Day — Stewardship & Skills

The fan-shaped kitchen herb bed is finally planted.

This little bed sits right off the patio, close enough to the kitchen to make harvesting herbs easy while cooking. We filled it with practical, useful things — herbs for food, flowers for pollinators, and plants that can come back year after year.

In this bed we planted:

🌿 Italian oregano
🌿 marjoram
🌿 thyme
🌿 sage
🌿 parsley
🌿 chamomile
🌿 lavender
🌿 hyssop
🌸 echinacea at the front corners

It may not look Pinterest-perfect yet, but this is stewardship in real life.

The upside-down planters are staying for now to keep the dogs from digging… and to discourage the occasional rooster who thinks every freshly worked bed belongs to him. 😂

Sometimes building a homestead means planting the herbs, protecting the soil, improvising with what you have, and calling it progress.

Little by little, skill by skill, bed by bed.
