We’ve been a little quiet around here the last week, and there’s a reason for that.

Last Saturday, Chris had an accident using the band saw and ended up with 7 stitches in his finger. He’s been taking it easy and healing, which has slowed things down in the workshop for a bit. The two new wood pieces I just listed today — the pair of red cedar cats and the spalted red oak shark — were finished right before his injury.

We also added two new candles to the shop: Teakwood Reserve, a rich and masculine woody scent, and Pineapple Kiss, a bright tropical blend of pineapple, passionfruit, and coconut. Both are poured with clean-burning coconut apricot wax and have great throw.

Even with the slowdown, Chris has some really beautiful wood pieces coming soon, including a large angel with dramatic burl wings, along with butterflies, dragonflies, and other unique pieces using natural burls and striking wood grain.

On the candle side, we’re also working on bringing back some classic and highly requested scents. Think warm vanilla, cozy bakery-type fragrances, and other favorites many of you have asked for. If there’s a scent you’ve been hoping to see, feel free to let us know — we love hearing your requests!

🌿✨ New in the shop — this sweet little hand-turned wooden elephant just went live on Etsy!

The body is turned from solid red oak on the lathe, then hand-selected rich sugar maple burl slices for the large, expressive ears and shaped cedar for the trunk and tusks. The live-edge burl gives each ear its own natural curves and character — no two are ever the same.

Finished with Tallahassee Tung Oil, the wood has that beautiful warm satin glow that highlights every swirl and marking. It’s the perfect mix of minimalist Japandi lines and wabi-sabi soul — organic, serene, and full of personality.

🌳✨ A little behind-the-scenes on what makes our hand-turned sculptures so special…

Chris turns each piece on the lathe, carefully shaping the body and head from solid hardwood into clean, minimalist forms. He then hand-selects live-edge burl slices and naturally formed wood pieces — using them for wings, ears, fins, tails, and other organic details. These aren’t carved; they’re real parts of the tree, full of bark edges, spalting, worm holes, and character. With tongue-and-groove joinery, he attaches them so they appear to grow naturally from the body itself.

Chris and I collaborate on choosing the perfect burl slices for each sculpture, finding the ones that best fit as wings, ears, fins, tails, or other features.

This technique is truly special — we’ve never seen anything quite like it. It embraces the wabi-sabi philosophy of finding beauty in imperfection while creating a serene, Japandi-inspired aesthetic that feels both minimalist and deeply natural. Every sculpture is then finished with Tallahassee Tung Oil, which brings out the rich grain and creates a warm, protective satin patina that only improves with time.

Because every burl is completely unique, no two sculptures are ever the same. These are truly one-of-a-kind works of art that celebrate the wood exactly as nature made it.

🐧 Two brand-new wabi-sabi wood sculptures just landed in the shop! 🪵✨

First is our Emperor Penguin — a dramatic two-tone beauty made from black walnut, 100-year-old reclaimed barn beam oak, and an Osage orange burl base. At 12¾" tall and 15.3 lbs.

And our newest angel features a red oak body with dramatic live-edge black walnut burl wings and a soft shimmering blue epoxy accent running down the front — a peaceful, spa-like glow that catches the light beautifully.

Both are completely one-of-a-kind, finished with Tallahassee tung oil, and full of natural imperfections that make them perfectly imperfect.

These are heirloom-quality pieces that feel right at home in minimalist, Scandinavian, mid-century modern, or boho spaces.

Our Forgotten Coast series continues to grow with two new favorites:

Live Oak Breeze – the calm, breezy scent of ancient live oaks draped in Spanish moss and soft coastal air

Fresh Magnolia Breeze – graceful magnolia blossoms drifting on a warm Gulf Coast mist

✨ Oh, look at the beautiful possibilities with these giant burl cap mushrooms! ✨

Each one is hand crafted using natural wood burls for the caps (with gorgeous live edges and organic grain patterns left beautifully exposed) and sturdy wood branches for the stems. They perfectly embrace our aesthetic — celebrating the natural imperfections and unique character already present in the wood.

These large mushrooms are incredibly versatile:
