This liner could have failed — and most homeowners would never know.
We just finished correcting a dangerously installed wood-burning insert liner here in the Table Rock Lake / Branson area, and this is a problem we see more often than people realize.

What was wrong:
❌ The stainless liner was NOT insulated, even though the insert manufacturer requires insulation
❌ The liner was forced through the damper throat, causing a severe kink
❌ The liner showed blue/brown discoloration — a clear sign of overheating and metal fatigue

Why that discoloration matters:
When stainless steel liners are kinked or restricted, heat concentrates at that point. Over time, the metal loses strength, thins, and becomes brittle. That can lead to cracking or failure, allowing heat, smoke, and flue gases to escape into the fireplace cavity or structure — a serious fire risk.

What we did:
✅ Removed the failed liner
✅ Installed a properly sized stainless liner
✅ Fully insulated it per manufacturer specs
✅ Corrected the damper area to eliminate restrictions
✅ Verified proper draft and safe operation

A liner, insert, insulation, and damper clearance are a system. If one part is wrong, the entire setup is compromised.

We’re proud to share that Caleb Ko of Lakeside Chimney LLC has earned his National Fireplace Institute (NFI) certification.

Caleb passed the NFI exam at just 17 years old and is now officially certified at 18, making him one of the youngest technicians to achieve this nationally recognized credential.

The National Fireplace Institute (NFI) is widely regarded as the gold standard in the hearth industry. NFI certification requires in-depth knowledge of fire safety, installation standards, codes, venting systems, and proper appliance operation. This certification exists to ensure fireplaces and heating appliances are installed and serviced correctly, safely, and to code.

At Lakeside Chimney, we believe education, certification, and accountability matter. This milestone reflects our commitment to doing things the right way — for our customers and for the long term.
