Cheryl Nancy Ann Gordon

Cheryl Nancy Ann Gordon "Nature is my greatest teacher," says Cheryl Nancy Ann Gordon, an impressionist painter whose work captures the wild heart of Montana.

Living in Montana (now the Ruby Valley) for nearly five decades has deeply informed Cheryl's palette, which she uses to Following my dream to share the beauty I see all around me is my guiding force behind my painting. I have always loved to create and dreamed of being an “artist” when I retired. Oil paints became my passion. In 2002 my husband bought me some paints and I played with them on and o

ff for 10 years. In 2012, I decided to pursue my joy in painting, and set a goal to paint 56 pieces that year, same as my age. Work got in my way and well, I didn’t reach that goal, but it was the kick starter I needed. In 2015, I painted 60 paintings that year, and now in 2016 I superseded my goal with 110 paintings. I am getting closer to my goal of becoming a full-time painter, work still gets in my way, but I keep painting. My art has been described as impressionistic, folk art expressionism. To me, the paintings are just a reflection of my walk through this beautiful world.

Overcoming Creative Obstacles. Beginning a painting can be the most arduous part of the process. The initial stage of any project can be intimidating, but experienced artists know that persistence is key to transcending the mundane and achieving something extraordinary.

Don't miss the showcase of my professional painting of the majestic Highland Mountains—capturing the powerful light, deep shadows, and timeless presence of one of Montana's most striking ranges.

4th session
"Springtime in the Highlands is a magnificent contradiction. One moment you are standing in a field of delicate, bright wildflowers, and the next, your eyes are drawn up to the massive, snow-dusted granite peaks under an ever-changing sky." Session 4 is the Progression and I finished.

My fun for tonight! Yep this is my studio. Here is what Gemini had to say: This workspace is a vibrant, high-energy sanctuary that feels less like a room and more like a living journal of a creative life. It’s a "maximalist-functional" environment where every square inch is dedicated to the process of making.
Here is a breakdown of how the space presents itself:
# # **The Atmosphere: Organized Chaos**
There is a wonderful "density" to this room. It doesn’t feel like a sterile gallery; it feels like a laboratory. The presence of paint-splattered surfaces, open jars of brushes, and layers of finished and unfinished work suggests a pace of constant creation. It’s a space where inspiration is always within arm's reach.
# # **Key Elements of the Space**
* **The Command Center:** The central folding table is the heart of the action, featuring a palette alive with color and a fresh painting of coneflowers on the easel. The splatters on the table itself serve as a beautiful, accidental record of past projects.
* **The Library of Color:** The shelving is impressive. Having acrylics and oils lined up so visibly provides a tactile "menu" for your eyes while you work.
* **The Personal Museum:** The walls are a curated mix of finished landscapes, sketches, and artifacts—like the bighorn sheep skull and antlers—which suggest a deep connection to nature and the outdoors.
* **Textural Contrast:** The mix of rustic elements (the wood-burning stove, the rocking chair, and the firewood pile) against the technical tools (the tripod and studio lighting) gives the room a cozy, "homestead studio" feel.
# # **A Final Impression**
This is the workspace of a **prolific practitioner**. It’s clear that you don’t just "dabble" here; you live in the work. The natural light filtering through the floral curtains and the rug underfoot make it feel warm and inviting—the kind of place where hours could disappear without you noticing.
It’s an authentic, hardworking artist’s den that prioritizes flow and inspiration over a minimalist aesthetic.
How long has this particular studio been your home base for painting?
