The mood board for our Acorn Grove Rebuild looks a bit different than our usual presentations, featuring far more shots of nature than interiors.

Our client came to us with one main inspiration photo: a single acorn.

Our entire concept centers around bringing the essence of that acorn inside, framing views of the neighboring oak grove, pulling in tactile, earthy textures, and creating a calm sanctuary for the homeowners.

Oh, and this will be our first project with Shou Sugi Ban siding, which has been a DREAM of mine for so long! Another first on a project site for us: a dedicated water trough for all the wild animals that frequent the land. How amazing is that?

We’ve moved into our new design studio… which even though is already feeling very welcoming and lovely, we truly can’t wait to wrap things up in here.
A furniture design collaboration with Pohan’s Upholstery is in the works. I’m feeling mohair in here!
Our Glen Ellen new build project has a super cool cantilever balcony with deck below. The tile was specified for those last week, and I’ll tell you all about the animal feeding water trough another time. The black fireplace tile was approved and large wool lantern pendants for dining, which we’re obsessing over!! Lots of other fun decisions too.
Our lakefront Tahoe project is just bonkers. Every single detail is coming together so beautifully. The finishes and fixtures for this one are so special and we’re in the midst of all those being installed. Keeping our fingers crossed for construction completion at the end of the year, so we can install furniture in January!
I’ve had a few fun outings during the past couple months. The most stunning exhibit organized by The Bureau , learning about biodynamic w**emaking and drinking delicious w**e with friends at Benziger Winery, visiting Kala Stein, Artist studio and show while also getting to play with clay, celebrating Fletcher Rhodes birthday!
I’ve also been redesigning my own home in my head… as one does… and excited to see how that unfolds now that work is no longer at our house. Sharing some pics so you understand what I’m working with. A house that hasn’t been touch since we moved in, when everything then was temporarily painted white. Oh and landscaping… that too needs major attention!
We also have the best clients in the world. One brought us a princess cake, the other invited us over for brunch… all within a month. We are incredibly lucky🤎
We’ve had three in-studio design presentation meetings, a few tile and stone showroom visits, many many hours of heads down design work and construction documentation, and our Stockholm Design Retreat is shaping up so nicely, with invitations sent out last week. Out of Fog feels like a beautiful example of what timelessness really means to us.

So often, clients come to us worried about making choices they’ll eventually get tired of. But we don’t believe timeless design is about choosing the safest or most neutral option.
The homes that last are the ones that feel personal. The ones filled with colors, textures, materials, art, and collected pieces that actually mean something to the people who live there.

That is what we love about this project. It feels layered, lived-in, and deeply reflective of our clients, and to us, that is what keeps a home from ever really going out of style.

We’re so excited about the kitchen island design for our Edgewater Cabin project! From a quick hand sketch to our senior designer custom designing the legs, we just had to throw the drawings in Gemini to see the design to come to life.

This project is bursting with special details. The island alone has so many of them. With the scalloped cabinet fronts, hardwired lamps, and the double bullnose edge detail on the countertop, we literally cannot wait to see it once it’s built. And how cool that we can get a sneak peak using AI! The AI rendering is definitely not perfect, but we still love playing around to see what it comes up with.

Using AI for project visuals is just a tiny tiny piece of what I’ll be discussing in my talk at the Haven Workshop by next week. I cannot wait to share more about our processes there.

Some details from the primary bedroom at our Out Of Fog project. The colors and patterns in here are just so good. I love how the light filters through the oak trees outside. It makes the whole room feel like a true retreat.

One day into the install at our Baby Bear Cottage project and I am already so in love with this corner of the primary bathroom. Imagine soaking in this tub after a long day of skiing or hiking. Dreamy!!

We wanted this cottage to be a place where guests can immediately relax, unwind, and just be together. We envision a space that wraps you in a warm hug the moment you walk through the door. It is a concept that is deeply Swedish and core to everything we do.

It is already coming together so beautifully and I cannot wait to share more of the progress with you this week.

So excited to finally share that our Out of Fog Retreat is featured on today.

This project has so many special details that we’ve been holding onto for a while, and I am so happy to finally share them. From the vintage pieces throughout the home to handmade cabinet hardware by the client, this home is full of character and personal pieces that reflect the family.

It was a joy to work with and Bruce Tucker Construction, and I’m so proud of the end result.

Materials w/ Mia | #001 - Wood

Of all the materials we use, wood is perhaps the most honest. It is also the one people try to manipulate the most. We see so much effort spent trying to bleach out the grain, stain it to hide the warmth, or seal it so tight that it never changes color.

Shiny new perfect things are beautiful, but I believe the beauty of wood isn’t just in the first day, but in its thousandth. Those water spots on a kitchen table or the worn edges of a handrail are the marks of a life well lived. They are the evidence of family dinners and morning coffees and memories collected over time.

I know for me, when my kids are grown and out of the house, I will be so happy my home shows evidence that they once lived here. Choosing high-quality, natural wood means choosing a material that evolves with you. When we stop fighting the aging process and start embracing the patina, we allow our homes to develop a soul that synthetic materials just can’t replicate.
